I really had to laugh at this one. :icon_mrgr
Big up to the youngster for stepping up like a man and defending his mom, but it really is sad that it had to happen in the first place.

Wow. Serve the thief right.
And I know the lady and her son. Use to work with her when I was with Fujitsu. Little guy loves his mom and will do anything to protect her. I don't think the father is around though. So hence he is the man of the family.

All I can say is that it's a pity the little guy was in the car ... he should have come out and dealt with the vermin good and proper.

I dunno about that Chris. I don't know how big/small either of them were, but it's very likely that the thief had a distinct size and weight advantage. The kid may not have been able to make the kind of impact that he did if the guy was prepared and ready and facing him "man to man" so to speak - Karate or no Karate. The kid did the right thing. He acted quickly, he took advantage of the element of surprise, and he was in a position to strike while not giving his assailant an opportunity to reach him well enough to effectively fight back.
I wouldn't want to hear about 11 year olds jumping after adults just based on this guys sucess though.

So you're saying that, no matter if the kid knew karate or not, he wouldn't have been able to take that guy out, if they met face to face?
So what's the point of learning karate if it will be useless against someone who has a age, height, strength, weight advantage over you? :eusa_thin

AA, the kid is 11 years old. Against a fully developed, heavier, stronger adult, there is a greater chance of the kid taking serious damage from the adult. Knowing karate gives the kid an advantage over other 11 year olds in that yes, he can fight back but more importantly, he is better able to assess the situation, and take the most appropriate measures to protect himself. He very well knows that karate or no karate, as a kid, he would still be at a distinct disadvantage if he were facing an adult 1 on 1, face to face, man to man. Self defence isn't about taking somebody down "macho" style, it's about surviving by any means necessary.
In self defence training they actually teach you that the best way to defend yourself is to avoid conflict. You only fight when there is no other choice, and then, you don't fight like in the movies - you do anything you have to do to stay alive and walk away in one piece. No "showdown" style ting. Jus' do weh yuh need fi do, and get away fast.

Understand your point BCK. Guess I watch too many movies, where a kid kicks a guys butt and leave him begging for his mama. :D

Good point there. For example, a big 15 yr old vs. a small 30 yr old. Advantage :icon_ques
kinda funny though :icon_lol:

I once saw a TV program on Ninja. Apparently their main weapon was their short stature and light weight, allowing them to strike their opponents lower than expected and before the opponent could reply. In this way the target, trained to fight an equal or larger opponent, is taken unawares.

Actually it's not about size, it's about technique and know how, so a smaller person can in fact take down a much bigger person if he knows the right way to do it.
