:) Actually I did some research and Dr. Who started in the Sixties, not the Seventies. A few were in B&W, but for the most part the episodes were in colour. Did you know that the Tardis exists outside the realm of normal time and space? That's why on the outside it looks like a normal Sixties Police telephone box, but inside is bigger than most buildings in Jamaica.

Now where did I drop that sonic screwdriver......?

I have never heard of this series in my life. I will have to ask my sis who is 13 years older than me, and knows more about the 70's shows. At first I was thinking of the James Bond film Dr. No.

A bit of correction here. Because of Daylight Savings Time, Dr. Who may start an hour earlier. If so, I will miss it. Hopefully my VCR will tape it for me.

There was an interesting documentary on CBC the other day regarding politics and the American media, including Fox News and MSNBC. Hope you watched it!

Ahh ok, I watch the Breakfast show since I have to check to see what the weather is like and also whether or not the trains are running.

We have an impending strike so I gotta watch now more than ever.

Well, first of all there's a new Doctor in town. David Tennant takes over the role played by Christopher Eccleston in the last season. As expected, the Doctor gets younger looking with each succesive "regeneration" (the method employed to explain a new look Doctor everytime a new actor takes his place).

The one-and-a-half hour Chrsitmas Special episode (meant to be a made for TV movie) with a reasonable amount of special effects brings a new enemy (stangely enough it is not only the Aliens who are the enemy, but you have to watch to understand) and a new threat to Earth from without and within. The Doctor spends most of the time recuperating from the regeneration and only a leaking thermos of tea (trust the English to promote the intergalactic healing properties of TEA!) is powerful enough to help him recover. Harriett Jones has now become Prime Mnister as the Doctor hinted in the previous series and sets off in motion a series of events that will see the Earth into a new age of space exploration and domination.

In a seeming tribute to the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the Doctor at one point even mentioned meeting Arthur Dent :)

He also loses (and regenerates) his hand in a scene seemingly copied from the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker lightsaber fight in Star Wars.

The mini-movie seems to be a staging point for the next season, set to start early next year. Apparently the Cybermen will return, along with K-9 (anyone remembers this robotic dog from the older series?), Sara Jane Smith (she was the Doctor's companion through part of the Tom Baker years) along with Cat Women and other assorted alien species.

For those of you who missed Doctor Who's return, you will soon get another chance to see the recent season on SciFi Channel
SCI FI Channel and BBC Worldwide Americas announced today a major licensing deal for the first series of the latest Doctor Who adventures.

The 13-part drama is about a mysterious time-travelling adventurer known simply as "The Doctor" (Christopher Eccleston) and his companion, Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). The Doctor and Rose risk death and danger, battling aliens and monsters.

The deal, brokered by Lisa Hofer, Director Co-Production & Sales, BBC Worldwide Americas, grants SCI FI Channel the first run rights for series one with an option for series two. The award-winning series will premiere on SCI FI beginning in March, airing Friday nights at 9.00pm.

Unfortunately the new season of Doctor Who is not available to those of us not receiving BBC One TV.

Perhaps soon we will see these episodes on Sci-Fi Channel.

I'm no longer a consistent watcher of television programmes but I have seen at least one episode of Dr. Who featuring the latest doc along with his sidekick (they seem to make a good team) and it does seem to have moved on to another higher level than before.

Watched a few minutes of an episode recently and I wasn't really entrigued. Dr. Who and some young woman went into some device that allowed them to go to any point in time. Think they went millions of years in the future (ya, right!). They stepped out into a space ship with some aliens and stuff. At one point I saw some flat piece of stretched skin with a face, sing a song to the crowd of aliens. :o :icon_eek:

Anywho, it really didn't hold my attention. I moved onto something else unfortunately.

Anywho, it really didn't hold my attention. I moved onto something else unfortunately. That stretched piece of skin is Cassandra. She was destroyed in that episode, but resurfaced in the current series, this time using a piece of skin from her, ammm, posterior. ;)

The current series is now over in the UK, but has not made it's way to American television yet. I hear it's soon to show on Sci-Fi Channel. The stories are much darker now, with the Doctor seemingly very angry at aliens taking advantage of the Time Lords' destruction to seek to dominate and control time and space.

Oh yes, the Daleks and the Cybermen return. There is some witty dialogue between these two in the last episode and the fight scene between millions of Daleks and millions of Cybermen is impressive.
