Why can't this be done. Techjamaica.com, the sister site to Caribyard used to have this feature. Did Caribyard restrict this feature because of the same reasons that TechJamaica did so?

I think my name "chicokid" needs changing.

What are you asking Chico? To change your display name?

The older forum software TJ used allowed members to have that feature. The new forum software, vBulletin, doesn't allow this. So basically you keep the same name you signed up with.

Are you saying that if someone decides to change their name by discontinuing to use their old account and sign up for a new account, it could get you banned?

Are you saying that if someone decides to change their name by discontinuing to use their old account and sign up for a new account, it could get you banned?Yes. Identities are created and developed online with usernames and that is what people come to know you by. It is for this reason that the name is to be chosen wisely.

so what you are saying is that we do not have the option to change our username and we are not allowed to register twice right.

Ok assuming that the person ain't visit the site for several months and decides to return and post messages. The person can't remember their password so the most logical thing to do is to sign up again. Will Caribyard still banned that member on this condition :icon_ques

No in this case one of the accounts would be deleted. The first account would probably be deleted by the admin.

Will Caribyard still banned that member on this condition :icon_ques1. there's a "forgot your password" link that anyone can click if they're unable to login. Also, I've had persons send in an email saying that they've forgotten some of their info and I was able to assist. So from this point there's no excuse and re-registration is not really the most logical thing to do.

2. if they did sign up again their latest account would be merged and deleted with their original one.

This rule may sound harsh, but it's for the protection of the community in general. Trust me - you guys don't want a individual parading as two or more different characters when all along you are under the impression that you're dealing with separate individuals.Sheesh...thats a bit harsh...not even if there is a valid reason? Would you guys atleast find out why first? In most of my experiences I know why they re-register. In cases that I don't have a reason I contact them and they explain at which point we resolve with an account merger, etc.

I know what you mean. I've seen that happen on a local forum were persons don't register like Caribyard. Instead they password protect their username. There are in fact persons carrying around as much as five identities. If you smart and track their IP address to be similiar, then you know it must be the same person.

If you smart and track their IP address to be similiar, then you know it must be the same person.IP address alone isn't what you really count on because most users' IP addresses are shared, ie. dynamically assigned by their ISP so it's possible for two separate users to legitimately use the same IP address at different times.
