But cocoa....I bring people to a site that people hardly visit. We can nice it up now man....jeez....look how TechJam so nice and most of time is non-tech stuff mek it so nice. Why can't we transfer that energy here? Unless....Chris merger the non-tech stuff with here...so when you post there....it shows up here....and vice versa.....if it can be done....for a trial period then totally relagate non-tech here....I don't techJam would suffer because of that...right?

Well if non-tech stuff making techja nice then what would happen to techja if the non-tech forum is removed ;)

I'm not 100% for this action but I think in the near future, the off-topic thread in techja WILL BE REMOVED. This would help to promote Caribyard. I think that the moderators are having a hard time dealing with the fact that caribyard's sinking while techja growing with non-tech discussions :)

Exactly my point. A link there should take us to here......

I keep saying that they should remove the off-topic link and replace it with a CaribYard link for off topic threads. That will force them over. It's kinda hard to be on several boards especially if ppl were already posting other websites. Having the off topic thread just makes them lazy. It's hard enough for me to be swtiching between both sites as it is. Sometimes I am on one and not the other, just because it is too tireing. Also remember that some of us may post from work and do not necessarily want to have both websites up at the same time or be switching between both.

You could try it this way and if it does not work then switch back to being 2 seperate boards.

You could rename the link

Offtopic - CaribYard

Chris don't u agree? The two most popular threads there are in non-tech. Is there a God and Calling all Anime fans......really need to look into it!

You guys (me included) may think it's a good idea, but what will the others think? One of the best strategies is for us to resist participation (especially by starting threads) in the off-topics over there, instead you should start them here.

If we are going to resist participation then why do we need an off topic thread on TJ?

If we are going to resist participation then why do we need an off topic thread on TJ?the "we" are those of us here discussing this now. The others are those that need time and incentive to buy into CY. If you give them all your goodies there (like the one about God ;)) then what incentive will they have to come here :(

I just think some times we have to take a very bold step and do what is required. If I didn't start that topic there, soon or later someone else would have. No matter how much incentive you provide, as long as that off topic thread is there, that's where they are going to stay.

Many of them are young men and if the thread about women didn't get most of them moving I doubt anything else will ;)

The truth is, it's a matter of convinience. That 's why I said place the link where the OT thread is, that way it would appear somewhat seamless. Then start a thread about technology on CaribYard, only it wouldn't really be a thread just a link back to TJ.

Either that or merge the 2 sites with the top half being technology and the bottom half being CaribYard.

LOL ... I see you're strategising (sp?). Well give them time, there may sooner or later be (non-tech) features here that they want there like ... :eusa_sile

We exhausted this topic over at TJ a few years ago. Especially when the Anime guys wanted a forum for Anime discussions. Out of that, the members said they didn't want to go to another site to discuss Anime. They want to talk about any and everything on 1 forum. They love TechJ, not as a place only to discuss technology, but a place to discuss anything with jamaican freinds.

So we had a heated discussion over removing the Off-Topic forum and a whole lot of members were against it. As AngelKiss said, people don't want to visit more than 1 forum site to discuss stuff. They want everything in 1 forum.

For me, I visit and participate about 5 forums daily.

If you visit other forum sites (not necessarily technology related) you will see thier off-topic forums do compete with thier other leading forums. It's just life.

We settled for putting a sticky thread about CaribYard.com so others can come on over.

Maybe we could do more to promote CaribYard, but removing the Off-Topic forum at TJ would be very difficult for some members who live in that forum.

If this is the case then we are not going to many of them over at CaribYard. We may just have to consider building traffic without them. Either that or merge the 2 Forums.

Altho I still think my previous suggestion could. If you think about it they have to click on the OT link to see all the topics. The same thing would apply, the difference is that it would take that directly to CY where they would see all the OT topics.

As a matter of a fact you could still call it OT, they won't realise that they are actually at the CY site until it take them there. A little underhanded but what the heck you gotta take the bull by the horns;)

IMO, I don't think its fair to lure members from one forum to the next just to participate soh. Like setting the TJ off topic forum default to CY. No sah. They are seperate entities difference is that it is owned by the same person...both forums ie. So we need to treat each site differently. Let who will come slowly and/or rapidly...if interested, they will come and stay.

I find that word of mouth is the best way to get traffic on the yard. Keep telling TJ folks in addition to your friends about CY and see how quickly it full up. But no force on no site/forum on no one.

Luring is when you use some form of bait/temptation and I don't see anyone using bait here. On the TJ board yes, example the guys talking about the many girls at CY. So maybe this post should be on the OT Thread of TJ?

Is that a rhetorical question?

Anyway......I used lure because I couldnt find a better word. but thats all I had to say on the "traffic jam" thing.. ;)

Well...I guess by that nature......if we merge the two sites.....or forums then they would get to only use one forum. Chris will figure out a way. I have no doubt!

Chris
May 13, 2005, 10:32 AM
Nope - no merger. The two sites are separate entities and will remain as such.
