BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Fast medium bowler Charl Langeveldt grabbed a stunning hat-trick to propel South Africa to a one-run victory with one ball to spare over West Indies on Wednesday and a winning 3-0 lead in the five-match Digicel series.
Over 8,000 spectators at Kensington Oval were left instantly silent when last man Corey Collymore was leg before wicket as he tried to defend with two runs needed as West Indies chased 285 off 50 overs.
The 30-year-old Langeveldt finished with career-best figures of five for 62 off 9.5 overs and was duly named man-of-the-match. His performance overshadowed centuries by team-mate Boeta Dippenaar and West Indies opener Chris Gayle.
Four runs were required off the final over with Langeveldt operating from the Joel Garner end at the north. Ian Bradshaw and Dwayne Bravo each took a single off the first two balls before Langeveldt bowled left-hander Bradshaw as he played across a well pitched up delivery.
Daren Powell then swung and was also bowled off the next ball before Collymore's demise which sent the South Africans into a huddle and celebrations as Bravo looked on helplessly.
It was the eighth time in the last nine ODIs at Kensington and seventh in succession that West Indies were beaten.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith showered praise on Langeveldt.
"Langeveldt stepped up. I know he's got the skill but he really showed he's got the mind and the heart for those situations," Smith said.
"He bowled superbly. The ball was reverse swinging and he got it right."

Man...I really thought WI would have pulled it off but Charl Langeveldt pulled a last minute "Hat Trick" to bowl out Bradshaw, Powell and LBW Collymore...one after the next. South Africa won the game and already the series by only one run.
