Can I season a chicken and leave it in the fridge until I am ready to cook it? Or should it go back into the freezer?

How long can seasoned chicken stay in the fridge?

in the fridge, try not to make it pass 2 days. but you can always check by smelling it and looking at the colour.

Ok. I want to season the meat and leave it in the fridge until I am ready to cook it. Like a week in advance. Just wondering if it would stay fresh.

AA you can leave it in the fridge for a week but it must be properly sealed and placed in the freezer section.

I do that sometimes especially when I am going to do pot roast and I want the season to really soak into the meat.

What kind of meat do you plan to season and do you plan to use a food injector?

Chicken. It is in parts like leg, wing, breast, thigh. Don't use a food injector.

So as long as it is properly sealed, so it won't get freezer burn, it is safe to keep in the freezer for a week?

Ok I asked because with a food injector it makes the seasoning absorb that much better. However, here is what you can do, using a knife you can make piercings into the chicken and stuff the sasoning in the little holes that you make. Better yet if you can some how grind or blend all the seasoning together :)

Yup yup yup. I was thinking of making holes in the meat just this week to let the seasoning go in. :D

The seasonings I use is powder like. The ones that come in the bottles from the supermarket. Unless you want me to grind them even finer. ;)

I'm not used to making my own seasoning. :)

Sorry I forgot not everyone is like me. I use a lot of stuff that are not power based. Don't like too much powder seasoning if I can help it. The only powder base season I use is paprika, cayenne and black pepper :)

Oh well. They taste good all the same. :D

Here is one I use:
Island Spice Chicken Seasoning (http://www.islandspice.com/Pages%20of%20%20Large%20Images%20of%20Items/chicken_seasoning_page.htm)

Which is not much different from the All Purpose seasoning (http://www.islandspice.com/Pages%20of%20%20Large%20Images%20of%20Items/all_purpose_large_image.htm).

We normally season meats the night before and cook it the next day. However, I've seen seasoned meat stay in the fridge as long as two days without spoiling. Oh yeah, that's providing the blood is properly removed.

You don't get blood in the meat (i.e. chicken) over there?

I usually do that too. Season the night before. But my father brought up the thought of seasoning a week before, to save time on the day when we want to actually cook it.

Well sometimes you do get blood for example if someone kills a chicken and brings it for you same time...without the feathers of course. In fact, my neighbour kills pigs every year around christmas time and he brings it for me same time. So yes there would be some blood in the meat.

LoL. Well I mean when buying it from the supermarket. Cause I usually get some blood, especially around the joints and bones of the meat..

LOl...it's like here, if you go to the market to buy fish, you have to pay more for cleaned fish...that means scale and gut the fish. Not like back home where they do it for you :)

Manu

No man...if you buy it from the fishermen...you give them a smalls to scale and gut for you.....or you give a little boy to do it.....only in the supermarket you get tilapia scaled, gutted and deboned!!!:D Maybe das why it so expensive!:eusa_doh:

Well things must have changed then, since I know that they usually do it for free. Usually they are so happy to get the sale that it's not a problem to get them to clean the fish.

I'm just hoping that this chicken hasen't already been frozen. NEVER Refreeze your chicken, once you thaw it you need to cook it. But if it's never been thawed you can season it when you buy it and freeze it for weeks or even months as long as you have a good freezer that is kept at proper temps. Now if it is cicken you've taken out of your freezer thawed and then seasoned you need to keep it in a ziplock bag or in an airtight container and again if you have a good fridge at the proper temps then you can keep raw chicken safely for about 3 or 4 days without spoilage. But as someone said you can smell it when it starts to turn. If it's seasoned you can't tell by sight, but it will smell weird.
