GOVERNMENT yesterday announced plans for the establishment of a special police unit to focus on anti-kidnapping.
Dr Peter Phillips, the security minister, told parliament that the government has sought and received commitment from Scotland Yard to assist with specialised training for the unit.

With all the years we've had an independent government in Jamaica, one would've thought that they'd long envisioned and had formulated policies for the Police Academy to prepare the nation's police force to manage effectively, an array of social ills, including kidnappings.
In this case, we don't need a Special Police Unit. Police departments in every district should long have been able to handle such matters in their own locality. That's a day's work, in the life of a law enforcer.
