Is there a way to fry plaintain without all the oil? I use vegetable oil, but I still dislike all that oil soaking into the plaintain. Is there another way of getting that nice fry plaintain without all that oil??
I usually put the plaintains in a dish that is layered with napkins, so that it soaks up some of the oil from the plaintains, after I fry it.
I'm talking about ripe plaintain by the way.

LOL! Ummm you and some food problems. You can eat eeh. :D
Anyway, use lard or nuff butter. Either way, you need nuff oil to fry it.

i donno, but try baking them. i know u want em fried but if u bake in a lightly greased pan (like with some low fat cooking spray, it may give u similar results to fried plantain...i donno if that'll work. sounds feasible. this is what i'd do:
grease a flat baking tin with low fat spay (like Pam)
cover the tin with the plantain with foil and bake (temperature..i donno, 250 maybe???)
do it till it tender
it gonna be soggy so remove the foil and put it back in to get crispy (ripe plantain crispy wen it fry or is di green ones??)...
i'dda try dat. but nuthin gives that nice cholestoral-heart-failure flavour like fry food, so it prolly still aint go taste good. i'll search some recipes for yah and post em.

personally i think it would be better if you just fried them cuz if you bake them then it is going to taste different just try to cut down on the amount of oil you use, but in doing so you have to monitor it carefully so a not to let the plantain scorch(if a so it spell)

AA its tried and true!!!
did it my way (ok, my mom did it once and i asked her how she done 'em), but i think the only reason it tastes WOW was cuzof the garlic flavoured PAM spray...other than that, good ole cooking oil and napkin's the way to go (dont try baking the green ones- theyre cooked, they just white and soft)
laughs. i love cooking!!

it will change the taste a little, but all you have to do is sprinkle a little on one side of the plantain. when you flip it, the excess will drop in the oil and spread all over the plantain.
