Christopher Nolan's film explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He treturns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.
I am really looking forward to this movie. Been a fan from longtime. Prefer him over superman because he is original, superman just lame!!! So who else is looking forward to this?

I am but don't knock Superman. He wasn't really super though. His just responded differently to the stimulus that affected us. The gravity on his home planet was stronger so wehn he came to earth, he could fly. I also think that he got energy from our Sun.

yea i know about him, and he is weaker a matta a fact u can kick his *** on his own planet. but just not a fan of him, i know alot of persons who are just bcuz he is faster than a train, xray vison and a bag of other crap. i rate batman still, he is just a normal person and he has got alot of cool gadgets.

super heroes suck....because they look the sameas they do in real life (look at superman he thinks he fools ppl by removing his glasses....how stupid does he think we are....and what they change their voices when they change suits??????).....just lame The thing is most superheroes were designed to be wimps in real life. In this way, friends and co-workers would always be in the "He/She's never around when <insert superhero's name here> is saving people's lives. Could it be......no way. Look at him/her! He/She could never even hurt a fly! What was I even thinking! :eusa_wall ."
Case in point:
Superhero =========== Alter-ego
-----------------------------------------------
Superman =========== Clark Kent (Mild Mannered reporter)
Spiderma =========== Peter Parker (bumbling science student and reporter)
Daredevil =============Matthew Michael Murdock (He's Blind!)
Hong Kong Phooey =======Penrod "Penry" Pooch (Janitor!)
ISIS ================Andrea Thomas (School Science Teacher)
Shazam!/Captain Marvel ========= Billy Batson (mild-mannered teen )
I could go on, but there are too many.

No corny jokes. Batman, and Bruce Wayne, were portrayed as they were meant to be. Grim and gritty.
Don't get me started on the Batmobile....

OK....Saw the movie today (Man Carib was packed). People everywhere.....walking up and down....cell phones ringing....people coming down the isles in the dark and hollaring out the names of their friends in an effort to find them.
The people were silent for the most part so I got to hear 95-98% of the dialogue.
The movie was good....very.....very.....VERY Good. I mean there was this part when he........then he went.........and he.........but after that she........and then he had to.........
If you wanna know...see it yourself. I'm gonna see it again. I was overly impressed. It's not a continuation. It's a re-invention of the character and this one is waaaay better than it's two previous versions....maybe all previous versions! One thing I had a problem with....Batman had on more make-up than Katie Holmes (Look how pink his lips were when he was batman.....)
I give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars!

I knew someone would say this.
Ok you have to see with Christian Bale for his acting. It would not have been as fluid as say a Val Kilmer or Michael Keaton who has done preview Batman movies.
Christian, although has several movies under his belt is more popularly known from his movies in Equilibrium, Reign of Fire and recently The Machinst. If you have watched this movies you would notices how similar-ish , the characteristics of the roles are.
(Christian Bale got oscar nomination for his role in The Machinist and if you saw the movie you will see why. - The story line is not for the simple minded)

I think Keaton was a good Batman. I though Bale captured the essence of the Dark Knight and was more convincing than Keaton. The other actors in that role didn't do it justice. They flopped in my opinion.

He plays those roles well. That's why casting him in this role was a good idea. It worked. The essence of Batman is that of the seemingly cold and emotionless "soldier" masking inner turmoil and insecurity, while kicking *** and taking names. He pulled it off.

If you read batman comics or watched the animated versions....you would see that he more than did it justice. Plus Biel played a much younger batman....not 30+ year old batman that keaton and kilmer played and 40+ year old batman that clooney played. He has alot more rage...which made him grittier...darker...meaner.....more realistic.
As for the batmobile...."I've got to get me one those" :D

Saw it. It was ok. It wasn't great. It was ...Ok.
Lemme try to be as objective as humanly possible:
Mild Spoiler Warning
What I liked:
The Story - It was well developed.
The character development - We understand why Bruce became batman from a pscyhological perspective. Makes perfect sense.
The Plot - So Bruce was a Mongolian shinobi. Makes perfect sense.
The Preamble - Sets the pace for the original Batman movie in 1989
The Lead Actor - If you ask me, Bale is the best Batman actor ever. Period.
The Development of Batman's Appearance - I like how bruce slowly evolved from being a Ninja to becoming batman. That has to be the best part of the whole movie experience. He kept adding portions to his costume on each outing until he arrived at the final look, some 40 minutes into the film. This is great.
The Costume - It wasn't overdone with nipples and all that silver crap that was in Batman & Robin - thank God.
What I didn't Like:
The Score - There are points in the earlier part of the film where the score drowns out the dialog. Furthermore, it isn't a particularly memorable theme, like that of the original batman movies of 1989 and 1992.
The Batmobile - I'm sorry. But exposed tires are lame. The batmobile of Batman (1989) and Batman Begins (1990) is still the best batmobile of the lot. This one is in second place.
Chronological Jumping - It became annoying at one point, because you weren't sure where you were chronologically. Did you people know that that whole prison sequence + training at the ninja academy, was a flashback? Yes it was.
Katie Holmes - I wasn't sold on her performance. She's not bad, just no Nicole Kidman. I think Kidman would have delivered a better performance.
Frenetic Fight Sequences - They were all blurry. Batman is a ninjutsu expert. I want to see the camera back-off those fight sequences to see every punch, kick, sweep, slide, block, parry....everything ... in its choreographed beauty. Instead, the filmographer took the traditional route, and had the camera up close, so you couldn't see squat. Just a blur of fists, feet and body movement - and then it was over. I guess there was no choreography to see. That was disappointing.
Incontinuity of a plot element - In the original batman movie, we see the Joker killed his parents. Now we see someone else who is linked to the dark legion. While this story goes back to the original plot, the least they could have done is make up some preamble to explain why batman would've seen the Joker killing his parents.
So like I said, it was ok. Gonna see WoW on Tuesday. Will report then.
-[Edit]-
Oh btw, this is the second best Batman movie. In my opinion, the 1989 movie is still the best. I much prefer Tim Burton's style and cinematography. Furthermore, how can you top Jack Nicholson?

I agree. I wanted to actually see Batman fight properly.
Incontinuity of a plot element - In the original batman movie, we see the Joker killed his parents. Now we see someone else who is linked to the dark legion. While this story goes back to the original plot, the least they could have done is make up some preamble to explain why batman would've seen the Joker killing his parents.
I didn't mind this at all. And actually, since stuck to the original premise that Joe Chill killed the Waynes it was clear that the two storylines are not meant to be connected. Trying to tie them in and explain why Bruce saw the joker etc. wouldn't have made sense. It's a different movie/universe.
Oh btw, this is the second best Batman movie. In my opinion, the 1989 movie is still the best. I much prefer Tim Burton's style and cinematography. Furthermore, how can you top Jack Nicholson?
That one was good, but I felt this one more. This one seemed truer to the comics.
They took some liberties with this incarnation.
According to the comics, Batman had several trainers. He trained with different experts to acquire different skills. The character Henri Drucard, trained Bruce Wayne in the skills of detective work and tracking criminals.
Ra's Al Ghul (http://www.dccomics.com/secret_files/dc_character.php?sc_dc_itemCode=rasalghul) didn't train Batman.

You're right BCK. This one was definitely truer to the comics. After doing some extra reading while Cable & Wireless was down, I discovered that the movie followed the Dark Knight series almost succinctly. You're also right about them taking a few liberties. I guess it was in the interest of time. :icon_mrgr
But lemme explain my reasoning:
I gotta be honest, while Batman Begins was darker, grittier, more serious and featured the best story of all the other films, I found the first one to be more entertaining. Tim Burton's cinematographic style is one that accentuates the dark knight using colour digital grading. In layman's terms, everything was a hue of navy blue. Even in the dark, Batman was clearly visible to the audience. Tim Burton is a classic broadway-style cinematographer. He allows the audience to track Batman on the screen using camera angles that followed him in motion, and stood back when he was engaging the enemy so we could see how smooth and wickedly precise his movements were. That was fun to watch!
Batman Begins opted for more of a hidden ninja/night-assassin kind of cinematography. Did you notice how Batman moved more like a predator in the dark, picking off his enemies one by one? This tactic reminded me of Ridley Scott's Aliens (1979). Whenever he does get into a scuffle, it's too blurred and quick to see what happens - just like how a ninja assassin would move. While this is definitely truer to the essence of Batman, it was decidedly less entertaining, because we could only get a few good glimpses of the Dark Knight in motion. I barely recall seeing a full body shot of Batman at all - except when he was Bruce Wayne and when he swooped off a building (which was pretty damn cool). Everything was so dark all the time. Not digitally graded dark (as per Tim Burton's style) - I mean it was pitch black in some scenes. I could barely see what was going on until the batmobile prototype showed up.
I'm big on set pieces. I think that every scene where Batman showed off his stuff should have been a clearly visible, easily trackable action sequence. The only major set piece was the crash finale and the batmobile leapfrogging between rooves. I can't help but feel a bit robbed when the scenes were over and I didn't see a thing. The plot and story development were definitely better than the other movies. But the climax that I was waiting for didn't happen (or at least, I couldn't see it). It's like all the plot elements and story points were building up to a crescendo which ended with a pip, instead of a bang. Y'know what I mean?
Batman Begins was ok; it had a great plot, character development and story elements. It just wasn't very entertaining for me.

Your opinon and I agree with all of those.
What I didn't Like:
The Score - There are points in the earlier part of the film where the score drowns out the dialog. Furthermore, it isn't a particularly memorable theme, like that of the original batman movies of 1989 and 1992.
Maybe it was your cinema...but I had no problem with hearing the dialogue. The first time...people in theatre were chatting....and whisepering...and shouting out to find their friends....walking back and forth because they were late...cellphones ringing....etc. This was Auditorium 3. Saw it again in Auditorium 4 and had no problem.
The Batmobile - I'm sorry. But exposed tires are lame. The batmobile of Batman (1989) and Batman Begins (1990) is still the best batmobile of the lot. This one is in second place.
While this was not your typical batmobile...the cockpit looked the same....so maybe he improved on it...as time goes on. Remember....he's going to "improve the foundations under the east wing". I would think that it not only includes the Bat Cave...but the batmobile and everything else.
Chronological Jumping - It became annoying at one point, because you weren't sure where you were chronologically. Did you people know that that whole prison sequence + training at the ninja academy, was a flashback? Yes it was.
Had no problem there. Most of his flashbacks were result of something traumatic so it was understandable and easy to follow. I was never confused. At some points you could visibly see that he was younger. His demeanor. His swagger. Everything was cool with me!
Katie Holmes - I wasn't sold on her performance. She's not bad, just no Nicole Kidman. I think Kidman would have delivered a better performance.
Kidman would probably have been better.....but Katie wasn't bad. It wasn't over the top. It wasn't bad. Was better than some of the performances in Batman & Robin :eusa_sick
Frenetic Fight Sequences - They were all blurry. Batman is a ninjutsu expert. I want to see the camera back-off those fight sequences to see every punch, kick, sweep, slide, block, parry....everything ... in its choreographed beauty. Yup.....I wondered about that. I expected some equilibrum type fighting style....where we follow it blow by blow. I know the dude can fight so I blame the director, editor and camera men.
Incontinuity of a plot element - In the original batman movie, we see the Joker killed his parents. Now we see someone else who is linked to the dark legion. While this story goes back to the original plot, the least they could have done is make up some preamble to explain why batman would've seen the Joker killing his parents.
I knew there was something wrong with that part. Plus we saw when the joker became the joker. Why he became the joker. Maybe they are going to do the genre over. Would be welcomed....but what did the comics say? Did Joker really kill Bruce's parent's? Kinda convenient don't think.....an enemy from back then so he could have his revenge. I prefer this version.
Oh btw, this is the second best Batman movie. In my opinion, the 1989 movie is still the best. I much prefer Tim Burton's style and cinematography. Furthermore, how can you top Jack Nicholson?
Well......yea....the original is still the best. It was also made when Bruce was more mature....no more sport's cars and fast women.

- That's odd. I saw the movie upstairs. Is that one Auditorium 3? I do recall seeing a review for the movie on www.rottentomatoes.com where they complained of a similar anomaly. Interesting... :eusa_thin

- I guess you're right; now that you put it into perspective.
...Was better than some of the performances in Batman & Robin :eusa_sick
- Batman & Robin was a movie? I thought it was a 2 hour sitcom. :rotflm:
I know the dude can fight so I blame the director, editor and camera men.
- Well, I wouldn't say that Bale can fight, necessarily. The gun-kata fights were choreographed by a guy named Jim Vickers (http://www.ipressroom.com/pr/aca/info/Equilibrium.asp), who is a martial arts expert. I wouldn't blame the editor, as he only cuts the film together.
I blame the cinematographer (i.e. the camera man) and the director. As weak as Batman Forever might've been, it was a joy to look at. The visuals were breathtaking. My favourite scene is where batman falls from a high roof. While he is falling, the camera follows him from above, pans to the side, then pans around to his other side, all while he is still in mid fall! That to me, was BRILLIANT! If Batman Begins used visuals like that, it would have been the best Batman movie for me... ever.
However, Roger Ebert disagrees with me:
I said this is the Batman movie I've been waiting for; more correctly, this is the movie I did not realize I was waiting for, because I didn't realize that more emphasis on story and character and less emphasis on high-tech action was just what was needed. The movie works dramatically in addition to being an entertainment. There's something to it.
I think BCK would agree with him. I disagree with Roger Ebert for the exact same reasons he mentioned in the underlined portion of the quote above. I can't imagine Batman as a drama film with little emphasis on action. It's like watching The Young and The Restless starring Clark Kent. It doesn't work for me.
Maybe they are going to do the genre over.
MAJOR SPOILER - DO NOT READ THE BELOW COMMENT IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!!!
- I somehow doubt it. Notice the movie ended where he went off to find the Joker. That follows succinctly into the Batman movie of 1989 that Tim Burton directed.
Would be welcomed....but what did the comics say? Did Joker really kill Bruce's parent's?
- When I was in high school, I did read a comic book that detailed the Joker as the killer of Batman's parents. However, around 1999 - 2001, a new set of Dark Knight comics (Limited Edition, glossy cover with raised decals! Very expensive) showed someone else as the Killer - someone connected to the League of Shadows. I'll let BCK detail you in more detail on this one. My memory is blurry here.
Kinda convenient don't [you] think.....an enemy from back then so he could have his revenge. I prefer this version.

I agree with Ebert. Though I would have wanted to better see the fighting, I don't think that the movie suffered much because of the lesser emphasis on those aspects. The ninja angle covered that base very well. I think it was actually a good movie, rather than just being a good super-hero action movie.

About the Batmobile
Compare this:

from Batman Begins (2005), to this:

from Batman (1989).
I dunno, I think Tim Burton's sleek warped version of a cadillac looks more menacingly intimidating (and sexy). The one from Batman Begins has a more visceral look, like a suped up HumVee or Tank. Wait a minute, they did say something like that didn't they? :eusa_thin Someone remind me please.

Up until Batman Begins, when people thought "batmobile", the first thing that came to mind was "Sexy". So when I saw the new batmobile (top picture), I was like...
huh? I did not get the memo! :icon_mrgr

I heard every piece of Dialog in that movie..... I'm almost sure I can quote it....:D LOL....
So this Batman is more like a res-designed batman.....so sequels to this pre-quel are not entirely out of the world right? I would love to see their rendition of the Joker.....

That would be awesome, wouldn't it? :icon_mrgr I can easily see Johnny Depp doing the Joker. He'd be perfect. :D

Seriously. From seeing him in the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" trailer, he really could carry off the look and the role.
Johnny Depp's cool.....

But it'd be no fun watching Bale kick his ***.....unless he has some big henchmen to pound him....like Michael Clarke Duncan (Big guy from Green Mile and DareDevil).

Oh you underestimate Depp my friend.... I think he can pull it off. He seems quite versatile, unlike some actors who play the same role for their whole career.

I agree with LadyMC. Depp could definitely pull it off if he wanted to.
