View Full Version : Are You A Snob?

Education is a great thing,it is what most parents want for their children providing they already have good health.
The ability to learn opens up horizons that would otherwise be curtailed in a closed in environment.
With increased learning and accummulation of knowledge comes the increased risk of snobbery. It is not partial to whom it might attach itself. You might consider yourself an everyday down to earth type person, or an upwardly mobile sophisticated aristocrat.
In it's most basic form snobbery is to show off,at the other end of the spectrum it makes no bones about letting people know in no uncertain terms that you don't consider them fit to clean your shoes.thorourly nasty!
But most times it is an increase in knowledge that makes peoples' feet start to lift off the ground and the chest starts to puff out, while self importance is hard to hide.It sneaks up on its' intended victim with stealth.
We are all open to becoming snobs because that nature is in us.However simplicity can help to guard us from snobbo',no matter how bright we might be or how much others might admire us,just remember we all have a value and it is what we do with our talent of value that will determine our true worth. :)

Knowledge is good, but we have to remember that we will never know it all. There is always someone who will be more knowledgeable and so it makes no sense being a snob. Apply that theory to everything else and again it makes no sense being a snob. There will always be some one who is richer, wiser, etc.

i dont beleive that there is always goin to be someone more knowledgeable crap. the world has 6 billion people, what if we start at person number 1 and then we find a person that is more knowledgeable than person #1 and then we find someone who is more knowledgeable than the person who is more knowledgeable than #1. eventually we will reach everyone on earth. so there must be a person who is the most knowledgeable person alive:)

Some people might believe that I'm a snob, without me even opening my mouth or without them even knowing a thing about me. Why? Because I prefer not to talk alot or at all sometimes, I like to observe things and situations before I open my mouth. People often mistake my silence for snobbery, which to this day I still can't understand why. I just wish not to make a fool of myself! I'm not a snob, actually I feel a whole lot of pity for people who think they should 'lord' it over other people because they think they're better in whatever way. Those are the people who usually end up dying without contributing anything meaningful to anybody else's life.

I think we are all snob on different levels.
I may seem snob cause I expect ppl to know things that I think are basic and sometimes I forget that everyone has not been raised like I was and hence sometimes I may seem snob while I am not that much of a snob, dear. ;)

The Scribes and Pharisees were among the elite of their day and undoubtely behaved as snobs.Jesus as a child knew more than older men of letters who he perplexed with his knowledge of scriptures.
Although Christ had immense learning he aligned himself with simple unpretentious people, thereby avoiding unnecessary and pointless lead no where arguments which people who imagine that they know it all tend to conduct.
Jesus often called his disciples 'little children' because no matter how much knowledge he imparted to them he wanted them to remain humble, thereby avoiding snobbery.

A few people (here) sometimes I can be a snob or sometimes plain out arrogant.
That isn't really the case for those know now me in person, knows quite the oppose. The problem I tend to have that you start to associates when some persons and then tend to become too chummy as it were and respect tends to fall. That I have a big problem with and immediately I start putting my foot down.
The problem lies therein as because of my educational background and experience, I do tend to come across a condescending (admittedly).
The flipside of the fence too is that some persons sometimes are on a edge and anything you say seems snoob-ish
You: Hey you, whats up?
Them: Whats that suppose to mean
You: What are you talking about
Them:` Don't you now my name?
You: I don't understand what you are talking about, thats just an expression.
Them: Careful, what you trying to say I am an idiot,
You: uuummmmm, No what I am trying to say.............
Them: Don't start cause you think you better than everybody else....(and blaa blaa)
You:(left to wonder where all that is coming from)
Frankly, some people need to know their places. Some times you can't be too polite or people will take step with you.
I treat myself as a nobody, but I am not going to let any else do that.

Let's not get imperfection mixed up with snobbery. No ordinary human being is perfect, therefore we are all open to faults on a daily basis.
Snobbery is generally a deliberate act of looking down on your fellow persons.
What I personally like about this site is that you meet some of THE least pretentious people anyone is likely to come into contact with, even though some of them are obviously very bright people.
I have no education to speak of but on this site I can rub shoulders with some who no doubt come fully loaded.

I'd like to think that i'm not a snob, but to others I may be viewed as such at times. This is where good friends and family come in. They help keep my attitude in check if ever I should beging to appear that way.
