Deffective gift?

If you received a gift that you realised was clearly deffective immediately after removing the gift-wrappimg, would you tell the giver of the gift? Why or why not?

Yes I would tell them in love no matter who it is. Also, depending on who it is sometimes.....I would tell my mom, loved ones or intimate friend in love. Any other being I would have to use tact not to hurt their feelings.

When you tell someone who bought you a gift that it is defective, it automatically annuls:

1. Any negative perception they may develop should they find out otherwise (without your telling them that is) that the gift was faulty. For example, some people will think that you thought they were unscrupulously frugal or that you thought they deliberately gave you a faulty gift to spite you etc.

2. Any possible misunderstanding that may develop down the road where the faulty gift may be inadvertently brought up in an unfavourable discussion, which may be misconstrued by the giver as an act of malicious defamation of character.

3. Most importantly, any possibility that a warranty on the gift (if one exists) does not expire, so that the giver has time to replace it in good faith.

And at the end of the day, the giver will know that you mean them well by being upfront and honest with them. If you hide the fault, it can be easily misconstrued as your harbouring ill will against them (been there - not pretty). It may be a bit embarrassing to come forward initially, but it's exponentially less embarrassing (and less taxing emotionally) if the fault is announced to the giver immediately after the gift was given. Trust me. You don't want to go down that road. Especially if the giver is a woman. You want to let them know immediately. If it is a woman, then like yesterday.
