I checked around recently and I realised that CaribYard is missing some EXTREMELY important legal documents on the site! Every site like this should have at least visibly accessible versions of the following:
Rules of conduct - A list of all that is allowed and disallowed and the punishment for breaking those rules. If someone wants to beef with a mod, they can check the rules of conduct ANYTIME they want. Heck, mods could quick reference the rules whenever they please, so bad boys 'n girls will know exactly what they're dealing with and what they're up against. This way, nobody can claim ignorance when a mod challenges them. The Rules of Conduct cannot just be accessible to moderators. That's just crazy! Having this in place allows mods to shed some flak off their skin when people try to gang-rush them for what they might deem unfair "moderation practices". It's happened before, and it wouldn't have been that way if the rules were clearly visible for everyone to see.
A privacy policy - People need to know that the personal information they supply here (except for content in posts) isn't sold out and is inaccessible to outside sources. All kinds of strange personalities gravitate towards forums. You don't want a stalker registered here, using CY as an alibi. That would suck!
A Statement of Disclaimership - It must be made clear where the lines are drawn between the ownership of the site's content. Are the mods, the admin or the posters responsible for their posts? Who has the final say? I mean c'mon! At least THIS must be visible! This should have been one of the first documents that were created before the site was launched.
I don't know who'd be responsible for the creation of these documents, but they are QUINTESSENTIAL to the legal buoyancy of the site and its operators. Get it done and in place immediately! I was shocked that there are no visible links to such documents online!
Isn't that playing it a little risky guys? :icon_eek:
Concerned,
Xeno
