Chances are, the hand to hand combat they trained you in when you were in the military is derived from some martial art. For knife fighting I think some military units teach a form of the Philipino art of Kali.
They've got martial arts shools all over the island. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Kung Fu, Choi Kwang Do, and according to Gil, some ninjutsu stuff.
There are tournaments put on by the various schools each year. Fun stuff. They sometimes bring down some celebreties to the tournaments.

I'm trying to find out about all the martial arts schools in Jamaica. There are some schools I recall seeing at tournaments, but for the life of me now, I can't find any contact information for any of them.
I already have the contact info for the more well known schools -
- Jamaica Tae Kwon Do
- Seido Karate
- Jui-Fusin Karate
- Zendo Kai Kan Karate
- Wing Lung Kung Fu
- Japan Karate Association of Jamaica (Shotokan)
Can anyone help me find out about:
1. Choi-Kwan-Do
2. Black Dragon Kickboxing
3. Shi Tai Kickboxing
4. The elusive Ninjutsu school(s)
I'd also be interested in details about any other martial arts schools not previously mentioned (Judo, Jujitsu, Wing Chun etc.). Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Not all styles of Kung Fu are into that kind of body conditioning.

Words from only living Ninja Master in japan " A Master must always be able to kill his own students"
To pass one exam, you kneel blindfolded while you are attacked with a sword from behind , you need to forestall the attack to pass...
However in "Modern times" they don't use a real sword. :-(

Yes, but survival of the skillest also means the quality of the students increase, luck not withstanding.
Remember there were men who could draw sword and cut wings off birds in flight, so if you not skilled, you would have no chance against men like that!

It means the number of students decreases. Bad for business.

Today, bullets improve your chances dramatically, so "survival of the skillest" doesn't need to be around.

even in gun war btw, skill still has a lot to do with survival, esp if you are warmonger...

Yeah, but we don't shoot live rounds at trainees so there can be survival of the skillest.

You are never too old to learn and train.
Sure, certain styles and techniques are better suited to those younger and more physically fit/flexible/strong but you can still find something that suits you out there. Once you start, you just have to train smart. You also have to keep in mind your objectives for training. If it's self-defence, remember, that you can do this without necessarily doing complicated, difficult techniques, so there's no reason to be discouraged because of age.
Besides, you ain't that old dude.

BCK you follow that one in the cage? The name slips me. The one Ken Shamrock competes in. That's a very physical one. Wonder if they have it in the caribbean?
