It is said that humans should consume at least eight glasses of water per day. In some schools here, teacher are going into the pratice of letting students have their water bottle besides them in classes. Do you think that such move will encourage children at a young age to drink enough water :icon_ques

Not really.

As a child I loved my sweet drinks and hated water. Having the teachers allow
children to carry water to class will only help the children who actually already
want to drink water, which I will assume are few and far apart.

for sure :icon_excl :icon_idea but that may be a good thing cuz like pogi said i hated water and love drinks but the reality would be that water is pure and is healthy for the body while drinks does all the unpure stuff..

After a while I grew out of the sweet things, I mainly drink water now.. lots of it.

I remember my mother always encouraged me to drink more water.. I never listened
to her though, you cant really force children to do certain things.

I dont think so cause giving them authorization doesn't mean they will bring water to school. I was always allowed to bring drinks to class and it was never water i know better now though.

I always drank water. Drinks too sweet. It makes me more thirsty after I finish drinking. Cool water cooled me down and quenched my thirst more than drinks could do.

Hence I drink whole lotta water during the day. I drink orange juice, tang like when I having a meal or something.

Letting kids have water bottles during classes may encourage water fights, but I digress. It is important to instill in kids the importance of keeping their bodies mostly hydrated with water. Instead of putting those sweet drinks in kids lunchboxes, put water, and things like fruit that also have a large water content.

Water is good for the skin, the hair, detoxification of the body, and overall body homeostasis.

Yes this is very important...sweets make yu either hyperactive or sleepy. I think the kids nowadays are exposed to so much sweet and fast food. I have noticed that when i have water with a meal i dont not feel lethargic as if i had some juice. Also usually if you maintain drinking water thru the day.. you tend to not snack as much.

lol, twinkle u do know that coconut water doesn't clean the heart right??

there is a jamaican saying "you can carry the horse to the fountain but u can't make him drink" (or something like that). this is just the case, kids don't normally do what their told so leaving them to drink something which they don't like isn't gonna happen. its like giving them vegetables, the only way they gonna eat it is if someone's sits down and watch them.

i was very involved with sports when i was young and my coaches use to tell me the benefits of water, fruits and vegetables and trust me, i ate and drank them all. maybe if more kids do a sport and then are taught what water, fruits and veggies do, maybe you'll see healthier eating kids.

I was watching the health report on TVJ some time ago and the lady was saying that men who drink ten glasses of water each day have a 90% chance of not getting prostate cancer as compare to men who drink eight glasses.

I guess promoting the drinking of water among the children is a good move and should not be looked down on.
