Does Physical Race serve a purpose?

Do the myriads of physical races today serve a social purpose? Do you think the world would be a better place if we were all the same race (aside from the human race)? What would be the pros and the cons if we were all the same race i.e no extreme physical disparities?

Diversity makes life interesting.

I guess our differences serve to facillitate us learning even more about ourselves and about life.

Also, different physical characteristics serve to make survival in differnt geographic regions possible. If there wasn't physical diversity, then living in certain conditions would be very difficult.
