A query is not always a disagreement with an opinion or a fact, something which lots of people seem to think is the case.
I saw an article where the older guy that hosts "Top Gear" lambasted America for blindly following rules without even wondering why.
He said, and he quotes, a police officer told him "If you have rules, you do not need common sense"
Further more he was told he could not cross his feet during takeoff and landing because if the plane crashes his legs could be hurt. Ok, he and I may be the idiots here, but I do agree with him when he says in a typical plane crash, his legs would be lucky to be attached to his body at all.
He was also not allowed to give his camera-man a camera in the middle of the airport (RULE), but could take 2 steps in ANY direction and give it to him then. When asked why he was told "That's The Rule", but no one could explain why the rule was in place.

There is a time, a place and usually a procedure for everything.
And as rule, any place or institution where these seemingly "dumb" rules are being enforced upon your person it is not the correct time to argue about them while they are being enforce.
Especially at an airport.
Don't expect the person or persons enforcing these rules to know much about why they are being enforced.
If it is within your sphere of influence ask the correct persons or lobby to have these rules changed.
Otherwise try not to act the fool in di people dem place, it's no fun being locked up in a strange place.
Bear the inconvience and get the hell out of there.
Easy streets cause no riots.
Experience teaches wisdom.

Cool nuh king, cool nuh man :)
cho loh di name, it is a blessed name :eusa_pray
But with regards to that quote I believe the policeman said it to justify his position in enforcing the rule.
It is said that Common Sense isn't common at all, and that is the truth as we find people not thinking for themselves as they should be; allowing others to think for them.
Rules are guidlines which help us to establish order, as things and times change, rules are reviewed and the changes made where applicable.
At least thats how it should be.

yes, but America on a whole as a nation is predeposed to following blindly, without questioning the why.
Remember I said, a query does not mean disagreement, sometimes it is just a query.
eg. "NO SMOKING" , why? "because you will ignite the fuel fumes in the air, causing a massive explosion"
Not a disagreement!!
"Still rarer is the man who thinks habitually, who applies reason, rather than habit pattern, to all his activity. Unless he masques himself, his is a dangerous life; he is regarded as queer, untrustworthy, subversive of public morals; he is a pink monkey among brown monkeys -- a fatal mistake. Unless the pink monkey can dye himself brown before he is caught."

I overstand you all too well.
If we all question everything consistently, then consistently we will have better laws.
Controlling a mindless horde is easier than controlling a nation that thinks for itself.
The no smoking at airports I believe are more for customer comfort and to enforce stricter environmental guidelines for public places.
Commercial jets use kerosene as fuel, which has a higher explosion limit than say gasoline.
Smoking on the tarmac has always been a no-no.
