Why is it so important for some people to be "in fashion"? What's the point? Are you gonna die if you're "out of style"?

they need to feel like they fit into society. need to show off that they seem to be able to afford the latest gear. a need to impress their friends and to be seen.

Why not? What's so bad about the 80's? What does it matter what anyone wants to say?

i hate to say this, but from what i have seen, in business attire as well as casual, most people have taken on the americanized way of dressing, why i honestly dont know.
i mean whats wrong with wearing the style of clothing of the island and not take on the way of the heathens (usa)?
for instance, what the deal with a lot of younger girls wearing them mini skirts that are obviously cut by white designers for white bodies (with the straight cut)? black womens bodies are curvy! it just dont look right to me!
i generally make my own sun dresses and matching headwrap and am proud to NOT look like a carbon copy of the next person.

one thing i must agree with hs, is about the short skirts these days. you have to wonder if its really work they are going.
another thing to note is business attire is pretty much the same for men around the world. suits. unless you live in places that are really unique.

Arent you American Hebrew Sista?
Should we in the islands limit our attire to things like straw hats, flip flops, tie dye, head wraps, etc. etc. I am in no way inferring that these type of attire are inferior to European and American style clothing BTW.

Y do techies kill themselves to get the latest upgrades in software or hardware etc... y does it matter?... - they do it to keep up with whats going on...
...Y do ppl kill them selves to watch the news every night? , to keep informed- they like to be informed.
..Y do ppl have such a fascination with modifying cars... and changing their oil every week and setting up gauges to see if the car is running rich or lean etc...?
Y do ppl do half the things they do ? Because its their preference...
some ppl just like to look good... profiling in the latest makes them feel good, they wont die... but the wont feel pleased... u cant relate because u dont care. it is of no interest u..

good point Bunny...
but even you can see that some of these 'fashions' just nuh mek it
i have seen some young men recently in mobay...skin tight jeans, digital belts, (with the red flashy lights) and the likes. now that is not like changing oil in a car. if you dont change the oil in your car, it is bound to get sick. if you dont watch the news, you will not be informed. if you dont get the latest computer upgrades, soon yours become obselete
if you dont wear the shortest mini (for women) and the tightest pants (for men) you will not be considered abnormal...

LOL yea.. well..true...we might find it a bit much... but they think they are the hottest thing next to fire...
Some ppl wonder why them fast car ppl car always haffi mek up so much noise. They like it... other than the technical details for it making such a racket... the average joe would be like.. y would i want my car to draw so much attention..
Whats the purpose of neon lights in computer cases ? It just looks hype... it serves no purpose other than to look neat.... but ppl spend all sorts of money to get them....
Shiney, flashy, bulletin board like belts are just really kool to some ppl... lol

I ask that question every time my friend sees something new and she goes wacko. :eusa_wall
There are certain fashions that jus don't make it for me. Basically they jus look dumb. I won't die if I don't have the latest trends (I don't and I'm still living). There are much more important things in life to check on and spend your money on. Some people can't afford it (like this big tribal family I kno of whose house is practically rotten and fallin, children sleepin under the house, babies makin babies but can nobody look hotter than them whether they goin out or at home:eusa_snoo ) and some people can afford it but alot of them that can, overdo it. There are jus some people that love looking trendy and jus HAVE to get, if they don't, they feel uncomfortable, left-out or even weird. All I got to say is living and dressing simply is the best way of life. No worries bout how u look and to hell wit what anybody think! :eusa_hand
