 Did anyone see Merlene on TVJ tonight at the function to unveil her statue??
My gosh...there are other athletes who understand that semi/formal dressing doesn't mean showing all the tuff n buff muscles.:eusa_snoo :eusa_naug
Some female athletes seem to think it's okay to wear sphagetti-strapped/low-cut dresses to formal/semi-formal occassions.
We already know they are muscular and all that...but there's a right time for showing the muscles, like when they are competing/training...but not in a formal/semi-formal setting.
Appreciate and respect her athletic abilities...but...I refuse to believe someone couldn't advise her on what to wear.

eh...?
What are you supposed to wear to semi-formal/formal affairs ?
I thought anything not jeansy or clubby was fine ?
Wraps are for grannies!!

Are you serious??
I didn't say anything about wraps...there are very fashionable apparrel all over the world to suit every body-type...A nice elegant dress with sleeves is definitely not hard to find. Obviously I don't expect her to wear jeans/clubby clothes.

is there a pic ?
I am realising more and more my standards of appropriate dress are FAAR removed from the majority of y'all.
So long as you not naked, any variation on the cocktail dress/evening gown is cool with me.

She feels secure enough to display her muscles in a gown, no need to tear her down by saying she too tuff for that dress as far as I see it who cares what she wears. Thumbs up to her, she’s not ashamed to show off her physique.

I know she's not afraid to show off her physique...if she was afraid, she wouldn't still be an athlete...what better way to show off your physique like when you are competing/training?
Not tearing her down at all...I personally would have preferred another outfit.

Darn right!! It's about Merlene...and if I don't like something about her...no matter what,I can express it...no hard feelings. My original post was in reference to how she looked on TV (news hour)...those pictures posted by Ramesh are not the same as what was on TV.
Anyway, apparently it's okay to be critical of other persons but Merlene is untouchable?? :eusa_naug :eusa_thin

Oy, you grudge the nipples ?:eusa_snoo :eusa_naug
They are a part of the human body, and quite visible on most women who go about bra-less (thank God for small mercies):icon_lol:
The only thing better is the legendary camel-toe....:icon_redf :icon_twis

Temptress, try not to get into an argument here. She is just posting her opinion on Ottey's dress. If you don't agree with her opinions, say so and move on. We don't need to get into an argument.
:icon_arro I understand Purple Queen's opinion. I have seen some muscular athletes who go up for awards or go to dinners wear clothing that reveal thier muscles. Something you would see on a fashion models.
Especially with women who do body building. See them wearing spaghetti strap dresses on thier muscular physique, with high heels and all. hehe
But what can you wear as a women when you got so much muscle, but still look good and feel feminine?
Maybe if Ottey went with a quarter sleeve dress, she would have looked better for you Purple? ;) (like I know anything about womens clothing anyway :icon_lol:)
Then again, when you are being praised for you athletic abilities, you want to show off your muscles while looking good too.:)

:eusa_clap Exactly AA...and on another thread on CY we see persons posting pics of "beautiful asian women/black women,etc"...that's each person's own opinion of what looks "good".
Yes,I'd prefer even a quarter sleeve dress instead...and even if it's a body-hugging dress,I think she would have looked much better.Afterall, she don't need to "tuck een her belly" That's just my opionion.:eusa_danc
Dress elegantly according to your body-type.It has been said for quite sometime now that "if yu leg look like broom stick,no mini skirt fi u"..has nothing to do with feeling secure about yourself...it's just not for all legs.People in the fashion industry make different styles for varying body-types...that's why there are fashion consultants. We also know that even men themselves are critical of other men who wear tight pants...their opinion, and I agree...no tight and no pink pants for men!
Just not right at all...:dwl: :dwl:
