Well, I was last in Jamaica in 1984. I was in the US Navy and my ship, the USS Iowa stopped for a visit in MoBay. I fell in love with the island and the people right away.

So, for my 50th in April 2005, I figured I'd better come back to visit as much of Jamaica as I can while I can still enjoy it myself instead of from a wheelchair or something. And since I am still single, maybe just like Stella, this fella can get his groove back, too.

So, what's there to see that isn't loaded with tourists in late March and early April?

Thanks.

Well if that's springbreak time then unfortunately there's hardly anywhere that you'll find without tourists. ActorRod, you'll just have to prepare to meet fellow tourists :D

true, but as long as he stay away from places like mobay negril ochi, he really shouldn't meet much. find a map of jamaica and pick anywhere in the north east or the south west. north west is going to be bombarded with tourists that time of year and south east is more like for people who live in jamaica.

Are there that many students during Spring Break? My birthday is 2 Apr. I wanted to go to Rick's Cafe in Negril and do some cliff diving. I may have to rethink this then. I just don't want to see the tourist traps.

Actor Rod if you going to go to the normal tourist attractions you will be bombarded spring breakers. We do get a lot in Jamaica.

What I really wanted to know is where are some good places to go that aren't "tourist traps" or loaded with spring breakers, then?

I am making plans now... just wanted some help. Right now my plans include;
1. Rick's Cafe, Negril, to do some drinking of rum drinks and cliff diving (not in that order)
2. Horseback riding.
3. visit to Port Royal - ancestor of mine had a daughter killed in the 1692 earthquake.
4. Get a tan.
5. Mingle with the natives.
6. Maybe get my groove back (if Stella can do it, so can this fella).
7. Drink some more rum drinks.
8. Enjoy the lush, tropical vistas.
9. Hiking around Blue Mtn.

Thanks.

So, Bush was reelected. Now I am thinking of MOVING to Jamaica. What do I need to do? Where do I start? What are doctor's like there? My US Veterans pension converted to JamDollars would mean that I would bring in over $1M JamDollars/year... is that enough to live comfortably? What is the film/tv industry like there? Is there opportunities for a white, middle-aged male actor there? Where do I go to shop for real estate? (can you tell I hate Pres. G.W. Bush?)

If you don't have to pay mortage/rent, or car loan, maybe you could survive on JAM$1M. It's been a while since I have been home so what the heck do I know? :)

1 Million per years is very very good dough my friend. Especially if you own your own home and a car. You could live comfortably with that.

What do I need to do? find out where in jamaica you want to reside.

Where do I start? important documents like trn# etc. and a place to live.

... is that enough to live comfortably? thats more than enough.

What is the film/tv industry like there? not very big and promising since you're coming from the us.

Is there opportunities for a....i'm honestly not too optimistic about
your opportunities.
Where do I go to shop for real estate?that depends on where you want to live. there are 3 different housing schemes selling right now in st.catherine. another 1 in mona. well i can't tell you much about the rest of the island. tell us where u want to go and maybe we could help some more.

hope this was usefull.

LOLOLOLOL...
I like dat idea... I am an exhibitionist at heart. Don't get it all at one time, but a little per month. Trouble is I don't have anything saved up at the moment.

As far as opportunities for actors and coming from the US... well, I only have one screen credit to me name. So I haven't been having too much success here, either. Anything is better than nothing. And your country is better than Bush. Much research to do...

Well, my budget is so shot, that my original plan to spend my 50th b-day at Rick's Cafe in Negril in April will have to be postponed... sorry, folks. Was so looking forward to meeting new folks and making new friends. Will keep you posted as I still want very much to come back to Jamaica for a visit.

Arch_Angel

Sorry to hear that Actor. Jamaica will always be here when your budget is looking better. Just as long as we don't have any tsunami's anytime soon in the Caribbean. :(

Actor Rod there is still the summer time to come. You might try going in the summer. I feel the need for the warm sunshine and tropical breezes..To bad we have to go so far to get it. Right now, I'm freezing and my feet are always cold. I need Hot Hot HOt!
