This is a wonderful move by Digicell, granted they will be able to claim it back thru their taxes.
Digicel commits millions towards hurricane relief (http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20040916/business/business1.html)

well Digicel was down but now dem up and trying to salvage some pride. People will forget about the fact that they were down with this generous gesture. I applaud them as well.
I still going to buy a Careless and Worthless phone.

you can't call them that anymore greatis, they were up through the entire hurricane. digicel is also giving half off international calls for this weekend only so you can call you peeps and tell them you ok n ting.
even though i have a digi, i still prefer c&w by far. they had the best phones and you always get through with your calls.
hey greatis, if you buy your c&w cell phone today its 1/2 off.

hmm I will still call them dat true for more reasons than one. I am someone that will hold grudges against companies. And I hold a grudge against c & w. I remeber when the neva see come see Jamaicans used to go around with the ugly looking nokia 5210's etc, thinking they were hot or something.
Pity the ignorants didn't know that you could get better phones for the same price abroad with better rates for calls. Digicel came and paved the way for the "neva see come see ignorants" to get good customer service (something most jamaicans don't know), better handsets and superior service. I don't think I will ever forgive C&W don't think I will even buy one of their phones. I have never owned a Careless and Wutless phone so why should I know. i going with oceanic digital.

those are all good points greatis. jamaicans have a tendency to fix something only when things get out of hand. look at their adsl rates, they won't do anything about it until competition is present.

don't look for ADSL competition anytime soon. The only broadband competition will be via wireless ISPs and I still haven't seen a WISP with as wide and comprehensive a coverage and service as C&W.
Anyway, this thread is all about Digicel's PR campaign to cover their poor service ... errr sorry ... donation to the hurricane relief fund so I won't stray.

Speaking of telecoms...guess who was the only service provider to remain up during the nasty Ivan. C&W!! :icon_lol: They took advantage of their "Temporary monopoly" and began selling very cheap phones. Digicel and AT&T were done for about a week but they back up and copying C&W style. They even giving $50 call credit
