Female Circumcision...Why?

Female circumcision usually involves the cutting or removal of the clitoris. This area of the genitals is very sensitive, it contains the most nerve endings.

General cutting is a painful practice that is often poorly carried out, and endangers the health and lives of millions of girls, particularly in Africa.

In some communities the controversial practice is a female rite of passage and remains an important religious and cultural tradition. In regions where a new religion has become dominant, the tradition of genital cutting does not necessarily die out. For instance, cuttting is sometimes practised by African Muslims and occassionally by African Jews in Ethiopia.

In the middle East, female circumcision is practised in the Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Syria. Even in the United States, 10,000 are believed to be at risk from illegal operations within their own communities. It has also been reported that young women in Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK have also undergone operations.

As far as I know the old testament has never endorsed this abuse of the female genitalia. Men of Israel were made to circumcise for health and increased pleasure reasons, for both males and females. God encouraged married men to ensure their wives rejoiced in the ecstacy of love-making. He would not therefore have endorsed the mutilation of the woman. :eusa_hand

FYI...the clitoris is very similar in physiology to that of a *****. It is regarded as a "underdeveloped *****".
