Jamaicans and Japaenese...hmmm in teresting.

Any way I was taught french in high school and know a little something something still. I can carry on a conversation to some extent.

I know english and of course, patois. Nuff Nuff too.

I also master the art of sign language. I love to communicate with the deaf-mutes.

WOW... sign language. Always wanted to know that one.

My motivation for learning Japanese has largely to do with Anime. I don't trust subtitles and reading can be a chore sometimes. So I figured, they're gonna mess up the anime once it gets to the states, so I might as well learn the Japanese. And that's how it basically got kicked into high gear. Now I can watch without subtitles to a point. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Furthermore, I'm kinda partial to asians m'self. ;)

The latin thing was from high school days. I love the way how it sounds. I was always taught a little latin in school (since it was a catholic institution). But I never took latin seriously until I started listening to New Age renditions from Enya and Ronan Hardiman. That started me off to wanting to learn the language, because I loved the music. Badly. What made latin extremely easy to learn was the fact that it is literally a primitive form of english. But I love the "sophisticated" accentuation of vowels in Latin:

Vox domini est vox Xenocratu / Veni, vini, vici / Taurus excreta cerebrum vincit!

Spanish was from high school. Then I met a friend @ work who's fluent. So I chat with them on the phone in spanish. Just to keep in tip-top shape.

French was because a young lady from ICHS challenged me in high school. Because I didn't want a girl to be better than me in anything academically, I decided to master it. Furthermore, it's a beautiful language (in terms of enunciation) and for some reason lasses love it when it's spoken properly. I don't keep up the french as much as I do the spanish though. Not much reason for application.

German was high school influenced as well. My sparringmate in the old Street Fighter II arcade games was a classmate who was from Germany. Since he mastered english by the time he got to 2nd form, I thought it would be cool to speak his language. This became particularly necessary when he moved back to Germany after high school. German is very close to Russian and Dutch (in terms of enunciation), and I love the abrubt coalescent sound of clashing consonants and precarious vowels:

Ich leib eiselhoffën!

If I was given a chance to learn Chinese, I'd jump at the opportunity as well! No questions asked :icon_mrgr

d_knight is right tho' - kanji is a b!tch to learn! :icon_eek:

I speak French creole, French, English and understand Spanish, Italian and a bit of Portuguese.

Xen, sorry but isn't it rather Veni, vidi, vinci? If I am wrong then it proves that the smatterings left from my four years of studying are not as good as I thought.;)

English, a little bit of Spanish and French. I tried learning Latin, Russian and Japanese at different points in my life but not more than a few words (which escape me even now).

Xen, sorry but isn't it rather Veni, vidi, vinci? If I am wrong then it proves that the smatterings left from my four years of studying are not as good as I thought.;) - It's actually "Veni Vidi Vici". The words are the first person perfect tense of the latin infinitives venire (to come) videre (to see) and vincere (to conquer). The literal translation is, ofcourse: "I came, I saw, I conquered."

The words were spoken by Julius Caesar (pronounced "hoo-li-us kai-zer", not "joo-li-us see-zer" as we're accustomed to hear) when he conquered Phantacles II of Pontus in the Battle of Zile in what is now known as modern day Turkey. He was addressing the Roman Senate after he returned from battle. The brevity of the sentence showed Caesar's sheer contempt for King Phantacles. He was showing that his army exhibited such prowess in battle, that a full report wasn't even necessary - like it wasn't a big deal.

I appreciate the clarification Xen even though I already knew the whole story behind this sentence. I was simply questioning the way you spelt it, and it is my bad, because by doing so I also did a misspelling.;)
