Portmore toll set at $40 for cars. Do you consider this acceptable?

Edit:
To clear things up, that $40 is the frequent user discount rate (for people that use the toll road
10 times a week or more) otherwise you pay $60.

I just think this whole situation is f-ed up, but unless the residents of portmore going to take drastic measures they just have to work with it.

Drastic measures like what ?

Block the toll road ?

Boycott the toll road and use the already over-loaded mandella highway ?

boycott going to work ?

sue the government ?

the people of portmore are caught in a well designed trap.

In that case hun, I guess we'll just have to take whatever the govt. throws at us, since we the people are insiginificant.

Well actually, the govt. in a off-handed way, tells the people, by their actions, that they are insignificant. In essence the govt, has demonstrated time and again contempt for the people. Well when election time comes around the service improves. So... I wonder if the peoples might lies in the power of the vote ?

park some a dem cars and tek bus, reducing the load on Mandella h/w
and avoinding the toll. some will even realise that they spend less
paying to travel than they used to pay buying gas for their vehicles.

Hail

I agree it is a messed up situation.

One would have to agree that a solution had to be found for the Portmore traffic situation. What is certain that we have no local contractors who are capable of building such roads and highways at such high standards much less to guarantee them for 35 years minimum.

In fact I recently saw the Jamaica JBS standards for asphalt and road construction which was updated in 1999, these standards were comparable to British standards up to a few years ago until they (Britian) started to use resin ploymers in their asphalt.

As I overstand it the problems lies not only with the contractors that bulid these roads but also with the inspectors that pass these roads which don't last 3 months.

I take on the situation is this; no one offered a viable alterative for the financing of such a project outside of the goverment and their bueracrats.

Why wasn't all this energy placed in this direction before all this began?
The citizens of Portmore knew for years that an alterntive had to be found.

Where would the money to finance such a project come from?
Could the citizens and business interest in Portmore finance this for themselves?

If we continue to be re-active rather than pro-active then we will always find ourselves in this postion, where others decide what our future is going be.

Question, other than the Mandela High Way are there other routes in and out of Portmore?

nope.

not one ... infact the causeway was built to serve portmore development years ago... as well as southcoast tourism that died.

mandella highway is going to be congested badly

Would it be possible for the residents of Portmore to maintain the Causeway bridge so that it will remain open or the govt. rule out that option totally.

And since traffic is the major concern with the toll in place it will create delays. Why not have toll on only one side on the bridge i.e. traffic entering the city pays toll and traffic exiting the city drives str8. That would have traffic flowing freely. {They had that issue on the bridge that connects New Jersey to Philadelphia so traffic entering NJ was toll free and entering Philly paid toll}.

Then again its probably too late for all these suggestions, or maybe they were already turned down :eusa_thin :eusa_thin

Portmore citizens got robbed by their lawyers. They should've known that they wouldn't win; that contract was signed eons before it was brought to their attention. They were just notified as a means of common courtesy. So the lawyers walk away with hefty pockets and they still have to pay the tolls. They should've lobbied for the amount to be lowered from the start and maybe, just maybe, it might've, just might've worked out in their favor. Anywho, like Twinkie say in the months to come they will be paying some hefty dollars. It kinda sad cuz I'm a Sunshine City lady myself, but when you get trick, you get trick.

The sad thing about it is that only portmore residents are protesting. What about the rest of Jamaica? We have to help pay for the subsidies that they are receiving. We should protest too! Not only that, I live in Clarendon now. What happens when I come in the mornings and I HAVE to take the Mandela Highway...toll or no toll. The toll is now 180 and is slated to go up by 20 every six months. Wah me muss do????? All unu Boulevard trafficers...where unu tink Portmore people gonna drive? Spanish road and leave the boulevard clear????
This is going to affect traffic in the corporate area significantly. Bwoy distance education at UWI looking nice now still. Too bad mi nuh qualify :( Unless......mi migrate :eusa_thin
