Is it possible for us to get an increase in the file size of our avatars? I mean the 100 x 100 pixels can stay..
I was wondering if the storage space was an issue... if thats the case then if we use a url link irrespective of the file size shouldnt it still work ?
9.0 kb is just too small

I Dont think they would allow you to stuff a full size bunny in there.
If everybody had huge avatars the pages would take 4eva to load.

The URL link option only retreives the image and the stores it on our server. It does this so we don't have broken images or having to wait for a website to load the avatar. It is kept on the website.
Chris would have to answer your query though. :)

I think it's "NO"...yup...that's what I'm thinking....followed by a brief reason why not.

And bunny, I'm sure you didn't ask these people for their opinion  , so as I said in my first, we can wait for a response from the big man himself.
Storage space probably is the main reason, but it doesn't hurt to ask though. :)

I think the avatar size is good enough....

Larger images could mean that pages would load slower for dial up users and those who might be using GPRS :eusa_wall

9.0 kb is just too smallSome have correctly pointed out that one of the primary reasons is the page load times. There are visitors using GPRS, dial-up, etc. and it's generally appropriate to have pages that load in a reasonable time frame. Sites that have BULKY images sometimes miss the mark. There are other reasons such as backup times and size, load on server, etc.
Interestingly, the largest avatar file size in this thread alone is just under 6 KB and you see that there are several high-def avatars, so 9 KB should suffice.
