Well I cant say that I disagree with you there. As well there is alot of fakeness perpetuated in these pageants. Fake hair, fake boobs, fake lips. I would love to see a reality beauty pageant.

Well it cant be based on intellect in some of these pageants. I have cringed at how some beauty pageant contestants form a simple sentence, or answer a question.

I always wondered the same thing, where did they get the idea of putting the girls in high heels when they are wearing swim wear!! I remember hearing someone say that the reason why they do it, is because the high heels accentuate the legs and that's what some judges are looking at!! :eusa_ange :eusa_ange

It's time we all took a stand against this neo-sexist extension of the exploitation of the womanhood.

When one considers all the negative impact that this cattle show business has on our young girls, especially girls of African descent and how far it goes to perpetuate the negative stereo typical feminine ideals which leave or young girls emotionally and in some cases physically scarred, trying to fit this so called image of feminine beauty.

I and I nah guh to lie, I love look pon di girls dem but I have to draw di line and make a stand against this blatant outrage.

Bwoy Izemi, I hear what yu saying, but I not seeing Miss Universe like that.

I enjoy seeing the different gowns and dresses different countries come up with. I enjoy seeing what women from different nationality looks like. I enjoy hearing these women responses when they answer the questions in the final round. Can pick out the fast thinkers than those who give a silly or sometimes dumb answer. :D

They aren't just portraying their "stuff". But also representing the women from their country. They also make a difference to young womens lives who don't think highly of themselves.

To me, it also represents that women are not just man's beating stick. That women ARE beautiful, whether inside or out, and that they can achieve whatever they want out of life.

Now you can believe what you would like. We all have our opinions. I don't see the show as pieces of beef parading on a stage nor do I see them as pieces of meat I wish I could tap. But rather see the variety of God's creation.

Maybe you would be more partial to beauty pageants if they paraded a more natural, less artificial, and more typical type of beauty. I agree that beauty pageants like the industry of moggling , can plant a negative self image in very impressionable young girls.

I have no problems with beauty being on display, as long as that beauty is not tucked, sewed, lifted, and glued. All the weaves, extensions, and coloured contacts are a let down for me, especially in the contestants of African origin.

Who knows things may change.

I think the general thinking behind beauty pageants is that the women selected to represent their country usually only stand out in the “beauty” aspect but the average woman can’t relate to them.

I saw it at the top 20. Immediately fell inlove with Miss Puerto Rico. Miss Columbia was hot too. Miss Japan was uber cute and full of charisma. I really liked her. I liked the final ruling. It had to be between Japan and Puerto Rico. Miss USA shouldn't even have gotten that far but I guess her southern charmed wooed the judges. Miss Trini custom was WOW! :eusa_clap Was there a Miss Jamaica? I didn't see her. When they were introducing themselves, they had reached "S"....Switzerland to be precise.

It's pretty simple I think, the U.S is always 'in view', either because it puts itself there or by some other means. Therefore it's easily identified. Plus it's easier to hate than to like/love (some may disagree but I find it to be so). And it makes it even easier when it seems most of the world is anti-american. I think hatred is very contagious, kinda like 'group-think' just on a way larger scale.

Pageant representative Anton said Mendoza had plent to eat. Read today's gleaner, Health section pg C6. I think it has more to do with the heat, esp if there wasn't proper ventilation.
