View Full Version : Masturbation 'cuts cancer risk'

Men could reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer through regular masturbation, researchers suggest.
They say cancer-causing chemicals could build up in the prostate if men do not ejaculate regularly.
And they say sexual intercourse may not have the same protective effect because of the possibility of contracting a sexually transmitted infection, which could increase men's cancer risk.
Australian researchers questioned over 1,000 men who had developed prostate cancer and 1,250 who had not about their sexual habits.

Lots of so called studies showing this is good for you. Bah!
I'm sure researchers, if they studied hard enough, will find that smoking 10 packs of cigars a day is in someway or form good for you.
Masturbating will have an effect on you and in your marriage if you only seek to please yourself. You won't end up wanting to please your partner, but to seek self gratification. And when your wife doesn't meet the satisfaction as your thoughts and fantasies do when you masturbate, your relationship end up on the rocks after a while.
But lets look on the big picture. Men will be avoiding cancer! So I guess we will just stay single healthy men masturbating for the rest of our lives. :eusa_hand
All in the name of health! Who cares about marriages anymore anyway.

It seems a bit far fetched to compare masturbation to smoking. I have never heard of anyone dying as a result of maturbating. Smoking on the other hand; the deaths probably number in the milions.
In any event their is also the genetic component to consider, and that can be greater in comparison to any environmental factors. So masturbation in some cases would probably not have an appreciable effect, but the theory seems plausible enough to me.

LOL...Your taking the activity way out of context here Arch :rotflm: The study isnt suggesting that some dude replace his wife with a blow up doll. :rotflm: The study is just attempting to provide some medical 'credence' to an activity that some men (single and married) already engage in.
Now to discuss whether masturbation is healthy or even right from a moral aspect would require another thread.

Maturbation can't possibly decrease prostate cancer. I thought too much sex caused prostate cancer anyways. Along with environmental and dietary factors. Further more, the prostate secrete fluid...not cells. Cancer is caused by an abnormal growth of cells.
In any event, men... don't masturbate. It causes your body to get used to the quick release and when is time to get down to business... you become a sub-minute man. Find other activities to overcome your urges. Read a book. Play sports. Chicken choking is not healthy!
Women on the other hand, you should masturbate regularily. Not only does it relieve tensions, (multiple orgasms is good for you), but you may find out more about your body so you can give your partner pointers for a more fulfilling experience.

I disagree. Masterbation may be self pleasure but one can also be extremely selfish to their partners without any influence from past experiences masterbating. Happens all the time Arch, the men just use the women to gratify themselves while not caring about the the satisfaction of the woman. Another scenario is where the husband wants sex and the wife is not in the mood, the man does every thing in his power to convince the woman and eventually she gives in and goes through the motions half heartedly. That is selfishness and it usually has nothing to do with self stimulation.

Wrong. Usually, masterbation makes one better at controlling the timing of a climax. Practice usually makes perfect. Certainly have to disagree on that point.
I do agree though, that regular long term self pleasure will eventually bring along a few unpleasant costs. The body will become use to producing an erection via touch so that it becomes harder for the brain to produce a complete erection just by sight alone. The excessive repetitive stimulation could also make it harder for the body to produce and maintain an erection. Diminishing returns start to set in. The mind gets use to the feeling of arousal, so every recurring feeling of arousal is less satisfying than the last hence it takes more and more stimuli to maintain and get erections.
I'm also not sure about regular masterbation preventing cancer. One school of thought suggest that every time men ejaculate they loose essential fluids and minerals such as zinc. Ironically, the lack of these could contribute to cancer. Usually the body will replenish it self if one eats correctly but no one can be sure what happens in the long term when a man uses up his fluids on a regular basis.
To be honest, I don't think its such a healthy practice especially if one is intemperate and gets addicted. The same thing would apply if you are addicted to sex. The difference with sex and masterbation is that you can do yourself at any time while with sex you need another willing person, so, masterbation has the potential to provide very frequent physical satisfaction, which, uses up a lot of resources.
In its truest sense, masterbation is simply a waste of very precious resources. Its better not to do it. Waste and intemperance is never good.

If you stopped masturbating long before you get married, then I would think you would have recovered from the self gratification of ones self. But I am more referring to continuous use of said activity, even up to and during marriage.
What's your thought on that?

I think I understand you A_A but I still don't totally agree. People still seek to gratify themselves alone while having sex with a partner. It could be only one person that is getting satisfied during sex. As I said it happens all the time and masterbation doesn't even come into the mix, some guys start having regular sex from 14 and don't even know what masterbation is but is doesn't lessen their selfishness. I think masterbation is more of intemperance and a lack of self control. Hmmm, masterbation during marriage could be problematic especially if you hide it from your partner but why would someone want to do that? Some couples do the deed together, that's more tolerable I think.

Most things in moderation. Self gratification is a normal part of the human psyche, because we are naturally selfish creatures to an extent anyway. Its about finding a balance between self and other.

Actually you are wrong. If you want to control your climax you should try to control your urination. You control the spinchster muscle which controls the release of semen. You do this by peeing, then stoping and holding ot for a while...peeing again...then stopping again...then peeing. By controlling this muscle, you can control your ejaculation. Can also control your erection too.
Women do the same thing to train their vuginal walls. Some of you men and women may know it as "quinting". The details I won't go into but you get idea.
And d00d.... if you're gonna masturbate...you're not thinking about controlling your ejactulation. You just wanna get off...so be honest with yourself!

So how exactly does that prove that the ''deed'' causes premature ejaculation during sex? I'm sure it does in some cases but not all. Note i didn't say it controls ones climax I said it may give one ''better'' control not total control.
And d00d.... if you're gonna masturbate...you're not thinking about controlling your ejactulation. You just wanna get off...so be honest with yourself!
Don't Assume.
Get off? Isn't that the sole reason why some seek out mates? Simply to get off.
Look I don't think the deed is healthy if it becomes excessive or obsessive; it would be best if its not done at all.

A happier prostate? Some urologists believe they see a relationship between infrequency of ejaculation and cancer of the prostate. The causal argument goes like this: To produce seminal fluid, the prostate and the seminal vesicles take such substances from the blood as zinc, citric acid and potassium, then concentrate them up to 600 times. Any carcinogens present in the blood likewise would be concentrated. Rather than have concentrated carcinogens hanging around causing trouble, it's better to evict them. Regular old sex could do the job. But if the flushing of the prostate were your only objective, masturbation might be a better way to go, especially for the non-monogamous male. Having sex with multiple partners can, all by itself, raise a man's risk of cancer by up to 40%. That's because he runs an increased risk of contracting sexual infections. So, if you want the all the purported benefits of flushing with none of the attendant risk, go digital. A study recently published by the British Journal of Urology International asserts that men in their 20s can reduce by a third their chance of getting prostate cancer by ejaculating more than five times a week.

Actually I can almost guarantee you will not be catching cancer from masterbating. What you will be is very happy and alot more relaxed. Orgasms relieve tension and cause muscles to relax which helps to alleviate period cramps. Also, it is good to know your body so you coach your husband to have a thrilling sexual experience. I know the veterans will endorse this :icon_mrgr

Unless you somehow infect yourself soley with the virus that causes cervical cancer, then its next to impossible that masturbation causes cancer. Most cancers occur spontaneously.
