Jamaica has been over the years producing some of the best Civil servants the world has eveer seen, however the government seems not to be noticing this. we see each day in our national papers where countries all over the world are seeking jamaican workers, the United States, England, Bermuda, Canada, Panama and other Caribbean countries are fast taking advantage of this resource that the Jamaican Government have right under their nose. The avrage Civil Servant in jamaica is been paid far less than the minimum wages of the Countries that are recruiting them so we can't blame them when they migrate, as the saying goes " ants follow fat". Why at the start of the financial year we have to be hearing each night on the news that Nurses, Teachers, Police, Junior Doctors, hospital Administrators etc. are stricking because they need more pay? The Government need to realize that the Jamaican Civil Servants are an asset and aught to treated properly in the areas of health, housing and salary so that they will stay here and improve the society. we all born here, we no want to leave here, but if the Governmrnt continue same way, nobody nawh stay yah.

Simple. The govt. obviously doesn't share your view that these people are valuable. :icon_neut

By keeping the pay for the Civil Servants down, they encourage them to seek money from elsewhere albeit from illegal sources such as bribery.
This is one of the reasons why Jamaicans get nowhere and corruption is so high.
But, on the other foot, if Jamaicans were to suddenly prosper the money will have to come from somewhere and the Government is afraid that the populace will suddenly obtain enough wealth and knowledge to not need them anymore.
Now if only the Government found a way to control Private Sector wages.....

I think the government needs desperate people. They are much easier to control. It's not that the country can't afford it. they just don't want to pay it.

Governments are only for themselves, not only on the Island, its a world cry.

Here's my link for this conversation. I wonder to what extent the government will make these suggestions a part of its focus and drive:
