Umm, the comic companies, marvel and dc, are the ones who are pushing to get these movies made, to drum up more sales for their respective publications.

So it is their ideas they want to put on the big screen.

WARNING: SPOILERS!

Fantastic Four 2 is a 1½ long sitcom. It's actually a comedy, not so much a super hero action type of movie. If you're going to see a super-hero type action movie, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Remember that season in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. where Chandler and Monica are getting married? Imagine all 24 of those episodes condensed into 90 minutes complete with a sparsely distributed action sequences and that's Fantastic Four 2...


Wedding Bells are the effective theme of the movie. The fact that Norrid Rad and his Yakuza boss are coming to strip the planet of all energy forms is completely second tier throughout the entire film. This was like an episode of "The Wedding Planner" complete with cool special effects. I kid you not.


Comedy of Errors is probably a more fitting genre classification. Through most of the film, Johnny Storm rips on Ben Grimm for great comedy justice. However, I'm not interested in seeing a comedy. The jokes were great, but I felt that the writer/director team spent too much time turning this film into an episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Wait, I said that already, didn't I?


Spontaneously Silly is probably more appropriate description of the film. Galactus has been rendered to a cloud (perhaps his comic book form would make the film even more ridiculous... but I'll work with this...), Dr. Doom becomes a side-dish villain for 5 minutes and Johnny Storm becomes the Super-Skrull (taking on all four fantastic powers) to err... well... duke it out comic book style with Doom. Additionally, Reed develops hot gadgets with spiffy 3D LCD screens with nothing but a screw driver (so does Doom apparently) and well, the rest of it reeks of the same level of silliness in ID4 where they trump an intergalactic mothership with a earth-made computer virus... but nevermind. :rolleyes:


No Character Development is another issue with the film. I actually connected more with Johnny Storm than some of the deeper characters in the film - like Reed. I mean, even Doom's spontaneous return because of the surfer's presence was relegated to a whole 6 minutes and 27 seconds out of the entire film. I counted. :icon_neut By the time the credits rolled, I realise that this movie felt very much like the very first silly comic books of 1963. Tim Story probably doesn't realise that in being faithful to the comics, he's supposed to update it for the 21st century... but nevermind.


Did I mention that this movie was silly? Check your brain at the ticket counter if you want to enjoy this. I did like that part where Stan Lee got turned down from Reed and Susan's wedding though. THAT, was HILARIOUS. :rotflm: :dwl:


MOST Importantly, RachieBabe would ACTUALLY like this movie. I'm serious. It was RIGHT up her alley - complete with chic flickerism, pointless plotting and the guy gets the girl (again) in the end. How do you feel now Rachel? :icon_neut

If you want to go out to see a decent comedy, then this movie is your ticket - although it feels a lot more like a Sunday afternoon cable movie than a silver screen blockbuster. However, I hear that Knocked Up is a lot funnier (not that I'd spend money to see a comedy). Furthermore, if you're a Marvel Comics fan, the only truly decent highlight is Stan Lee's cameo. The rest of it is disposable 35mm film. So either way you'd still loose.

Save your dough. Wait for it on cable... and please, for the love of all that is good and holy, do not rent this.

I'm also in agreement that the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" was a shallow attempt at a super hero movie. The plot was ridiculously "out of this world" and the action not much to grab you.

I cant believe u guys actually expected this movie to be good. from the promos on tv i could tell it was crap. part one wasnt all that great either. infact i cant tell the last time a really great movie was created. im not goin to even watch transformers until everyone i know has seen it.
