View Full Version : Bootlegging

A lot of people are anti bootlegging because they feel that it takes money out of the musicians pockets.

For me, a bootlegger offers me the newest stuff in music that a lot of time don't end up in stores for months! Prime example: Beenie Man & Ms.Thing-DUDE... that song I've had in my collection for over a year. Now that te CD is out I bought it, but I like to have the freshest music, especially in dancehall. In hip hop too, but more so in dancehall because there's a new dubplate and dance to go with it every week!

I still buy the CD's... but I like the mixes of DJ Loudmouth, CashMoney, Chinese Assasin, all those guys and the only place to get those mixes, are from the local bootlegger!

What are your views on this?! Do you think there are any upsides to bootlegging? If So what are they?

Well I would say i have bought from bootleggers and I guess there game is to try and make it here like everyone else. But of course, pirating is against the law. And the people who have ownership somehow dont see it the bootleggers way. :icon_mrgr In my area its hard to get, but if you go to the city you can always find the latest releases movies dvds, cds. I dont know how they are going to stop these people, because alot of people look to buy from these people. So I say whatever.

Look at it this way. Records that will sell and make a profit will do so with or without bootleggers. As a matter of fact they might actually HELP sell records!

If it wasn't for Bootleggers I wouldn't have known about Kartel till now. I have that Addy Banton underground stuff at my house before he changed his name to KARTEL. Some Portmore bootlegger sold it to me, met him through my EX. Bottom line sometimes you discover great underground talent through this medium.

Kartel's album isn't out here yet but, when it comes out I'm copping it on the release date! Kartel fan to the MAXXX! Portmore MRS!

Back to the point. Bootleggers can help expose artists that may not otherwise get regualar circulation on the radio. Do you know how many DJ's buy those bootleg CD's, find a wicked track, and buck it in a club? That's amazing because eventually if people like it..they will demand it!

That's how Madonna got her big break... hey you never know!

well i don't by from bootleggers, i just download em, copy someone elses cds or just borrow them and rip them.

original cds out here are like a gran out here, thats alot of money for only half the songs ur going to actually listen to. if 1 album is good, like dream, la bouche or backstreet boys, where i've heard alot of their songs then i'll buy the original. my mom bought celine dion's album, [the one with the black cover, will edit if i remember the name of it] just to hear one song that she did with this jamaican lady. treat her like a lady for those who listen to this artist.

she paid a gran for that 1 song. anyway, i like celine dion alot so it didn't go to waste.
my point is, y spend so much money for these guys to use their money foolishly. do u guys watch mtv cribs?? that is where ur hard earn money is going. if they stop bootlegged music cds, is a borrow thing or club only thing.

artists release album's once a year [just an example] you love 20 different artists, one album each at the cost of a gran, thats $20,000 per annum and remember some artists release multiple albums a year, and you may want 50 albums. i rather give that money for church collection.

That's worse than getting a bootleg lol... then nobody nuh eat nuh food bredda lol  :icon_lol: Unless you pay for the downloads through Napster or whatever.

Anything you pay for PERIOD feed some sort of money machine! If that is appauling to you I hope you don't buy real designer clothes, have you seen Donatella Versace, Karl Laugerfeld (spelled wrong I think), Vera Wang, or Jean Paul Gautier's homes??? Appauling.. absolutley excessively extravagant!

Point... anything you buy feeds someone else so that's not a bad thing to see other people live well... just try to get there yourself. I know I am... when my record drops you better not burn it! lol ;)

You don't have to buy full length LPs's don't you guys have acess to singles and compilations over there? I don't know though, I think the church idea is good... do you really do that though? lol :)

yes i give money to church.
no we don't have singles.
no i don't buy designer clothes.
you have a good point, its all going to someone else's pocket right.
ok, just send me a free copy of the album.
another reason i don't buy cds is that i love trance. jamaican's have a thing against electronica, so the cds i would spend my money on aren't available out here.
