A district attorney said Monday that he would not prosecute Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Dupre on child rape charges because the statute of limitations has expired in the case.

In an indictment unsealed Monday, Dupre was charged with molesting two boys in the 1970s, becoming the first Roman Catholic prelate to face criminal charges in the sex abuse scandal that has rocked the American church.

But Hampden District Attorney William Bennett told reporters later in the day that he would not prosecute the case because of the statute of limitations, which was six years at the time of the alleged crimes.

Dupre, 70, cited health reasons when he resigned in February after nine years as head of the Springfield Diocese. But his departure came one day after The Republican newspaper of Springfield confronted him with allegations he abused two boys while he was a parish priest.

The indictment was handed up by a grand jury Friday. :icon_twis this type behaviour from our priests, etc is starting to look bad on our church's and christians on a whole. :icon_twis

- Actually no. It looks bad on the Catholic church, not christians on a whole. The catholics have a belief system that is neither borne out of christianity nor biblical scripture. In fact, it was borne out of ancient egypt. It wasn't until around 70 AD that Catholicism took on the mantra of christianity (the same year the temple of Israel was destroyed by the Romans - the same people who created catholicism).

As such, most christian communities don't recognize catholicism as a member of the christian fraternity (and for a very good reason). If you knew what I knew Drew, A_A, it might blow your mind. As such, I will end here.

Take it up with me in person if you feel the need to. I don't think it might be appropriate to talk about the truth of catholicism in a public forum. In the meantime, if you're a catholic, I strongly advise you to read Revelation 17.

Carry on dudes.

thats true xeno. but one by one all these ministers are degrading the name of christians. pefect example is that evangelistic bishop. this kind of actions from our ministers are everywhere including jamaica.

so if we are to listen to these sinners preaching about sinning, are we really expected to take them seriously. [not a question, just a thought]
