Would you date someone older or younger than you? Older by ten years or more and younger by 10 years or more. Would you date this person or be interested in marry a person that is much older or younger than yourself.

I would date someone older because I think they are more mature and probably are settled. If I was to date someone younger than me about 10 years younger than he would be a kid. And I dont date children(lol) but I dont have a problem with it.

Younger definately no. Not because of my age but because I have stereo typed younger females. I would date older women yes 10 yrs my senior of course

When I was younger, I thought the standard was someone younger, about 2 - 3 years. So that was what I looked for. I met someone I liked that was older than me, but I dismissed my feelings for her just because she was older.
My dad is about 3 years older than my mom. So I used that to decide on my girlfriend. I had a problem going out with a girl older than I am. My thought was, the guy should be older, to be able to take care of the woman, be more mature.
But that has changed. I'm in a relationship with someone almost 2 years older than I am.
I will never be dating/marrying someone 10 years in any direction. 5 would be the utmost limit for me. If I was single that is. ;)

Well I have seen the rare cases. My 'mom' and friend met her now husband when she 31 and he was 20. This is her second and final marriage and now 13 years later, they are still married. And these are my mentors. So you never know where love will lead.

Ten year older - no problem, ten years younger - a big problem
I'd date someone younger depending on their maturity.

well i only date girls older than me. i get annoyed by these young immature girls. if i was older i would say i'll date a girl no more than 2-3 years younger, but not at the age i'm at now. i try to cut off the limit of girls that are older than 25, but there are still a few who have my attention. i don't really care about age.

me is old now so age don't matter as long as it is not below 18... but I preffer an older woman because an older woman is more likely to be a better cook.
Cocoa
September 29, 2004, 06:06 AM
Age does not necessary determine maturity, so why should preferring older men/women really matter? I have met some older 28-36 year olds immature as ever that still needed a Mama and not a girlfriend. And then on the flip, a 19 year old that is mature as a force ripe mango that can handle any ditch and blow and conduct many many decent conversations in life.
So don't you think that age does not determine ones maturity?
Drew

What's wrong with a woman who can't cook. Good grief you make it sound like it's the end of the world. Until a few years ago I couldn't cook, at least not much any way but I could tear a PC apart and put it back together. I can do my own basic plumbing, electrical work and wield a paintbrush if needed. Frankly speaking I hate house work with a passion. I think I must have been a man in my previous life or I was born rich :D
Does that mean I shouldn't date a man who can't fix the plumbing, or the car? ;)

Now I'd say no. Younger by ten years would immediately lead me to jail and older by ten years would make me feel quite unsecure.
When i am a grown up, I don't know...anything can happen. But the thing with big differences of age is -apart from the maturity issue- the difference of stages. Your expectations and that of your partner won't be the same hence creating some troubles and tensions maybe more than in other couples. And now I don't think that I can handle this kind of situation.

I used to have the understanding that guys musn't date or go out with girls older than you are. Guess it was a matcho thing. Man have to be older so he can protect and provide for her.
That was my understanding I guess. So I found it a bit hard to accept going out with an older girl. I felt like a baby or something and that she would have to take care of me. :(
Got over that though. She treats me with respect and doesn't talk down to me. ;)
I still wouldn't readily go out with a woman older than I am. I prefer to be older. :)

By some older men do not care if we are temporary teachers ... for reasons that won't be stated ... however realises that when you get up in age you have much better "sight" and can read people better ... that is if your powers of observations are well tuned.
Your conern is that of a younger man looking in ... take it from me ... the paradigm will shift when you reach say 39

I don't mind too much either way but the first girl to whom I was really attracted to was slightly younger than myself and that has continued to be the pattern.
Most men if they are honest will prefer a younger nubile woman who can cantort well if needs be.However there will always be exceptions to most rules, and some older women mature very well indeed like the proverbial fine wine, and seem to become more attractive as the years roll by, even into their sixties.
If a man finds himself a compatable wife who compliments him,he can expect to outlive his single counterpart quite comfortably and in happiness too.
Can't think of a greater compliment to pay,as to the value of good women. :eusa_clap

Some women are renowned for breaking in young bucks, and getting away with it,at least it is the case in the uk,where males caught in the same predicament will rightly be hauled off to prison but women usually get off with a lesser sentence.

Most of my boyfriends were much older that I was. I ended up marrying someone younger ( by a couple ) months because we had a lot in common where our age group was concerned. Having an older man may be nice, but there comes a time when you'll be interested in certain things that he will not- and then the gap begins to widen.... and his "oldness: begins to stand out like a sore thumb. Of course there are the few who can find happiness in such a relationship.

I would date a guy younger than me by one or two years if they can equate to me on a maturity level. But guys like that are hard to find these days, and I refuse to have to wipe anyone's nose. I would also date someone older (though I aint trying to go all Anna Nicole) as well, once again if they can equate to me on a maturity level. From what I have observed some older men are simply trapped teenagers in a 35 year old's body. But all in all I have a greater propensity for an older mature man, and if he can cook and look good in an apron, then thats more icing on the cake. :D

people people people.
using age as a general reference metric for maturity is asking for trouble.
Forget the age of the person and approach said person with a view to learning about their CHARACTER.
This character, while influenced by age, is very relative to the individual and their mind, moods and atittude.
Younger women, Older women, Younger man, Older man, it really doesn't matter much as long as the CHARACTER of the person is what you like/want.

NOT VERY HARD.
It is said that a mans test in this world is a woman. A womans test in this world is MATERIAL.
As such ... it is a pass pass or fail test.
Some men fail the test with ease, but here is the kick...
when you find a man who fails this test of life and stupidly becomes your financial slave by stupidly dating you without knowing who you TRULY are, YOU the woman also fail the test of life because your motive is MATERIAL and you ABUSE your worth as a woman and taking advantage of your gifts.
But take care not to stumble upon "quite" man.

I jus wanna reiterate what I sed earlier, a young man can be molded, shaped, turned into a perfect specimen, solely for you.
Better to train them up early, so that's it easier for them to start acting, speaking, behaving as they should.

VERY TRUE.... but here is the kick.
That same young man (who you trained and molded to your personal perfection) will eventually RESENT YOU.
You do not understand men do you ?
Once you make the perfect Frankenstein, he, most likely, will break your neck ,heart, soul, mind and perhaps body.

I tried dating someone younger now that was a disaster, i really can't be bothered with babies so i'll stay away from younger men, you have to be at least three years older than i am
