This thread is for our devotions for everyday that will give us inspiration in our lives daily.

Experience - The Best Teacher

The saying is certainly true which says, "Experience is the best teacher." It is through day-to-day living that we come to understand life. What we did not understand as children, we come to know as adults. When we start upon a new endeavor, we learn slowly, gathering more information and experience, until we finally master it.

Our Christian life is like that. We start out inexperienced and with little knowledge, but then we grow in our understanding and commitment. Christ Himself spent a good deal of His life preparing for His ministry and work. Like Him, we are growing, maturing, and preparing for the Kingdom of God which awaits us. When we search for God in the Bible and through prayer, we are being made ready for our heavenly home. In this life, we never really arrive at "being" Christian, but we are ever "becoming" Christian. As long as we continue to learn, we continue to grow. In that growth lies wisdom.

God is good. Verse 5 proclaims, For the Lord is good....We often reflect upon

the fact of God's love. But the Bible relates equally that God is good and is

the author of good things. In Genesis 1, after every creating day, God

proclaimed that the world was good. Paul related in Romans 8:28 that all

things work together for good to those who love God. And why is this?

Because it comes from a good God. James admonished that every good thing

bestowed and every perfect gift is from above (read James 1:17). Have we

thanked God for his goodness to us?

A Contented Life

Picture just a tiny room up in the attic. One small window opened, with the curtain blowing in the breeze.

A rot iron bed with a simple quilt turned down ready for the night, A small, round, lamp table with an oil lamp burning brightly. There is a wooden rocker where an older grandmother, with sliver hair, rocks. Watch, we can hear her as she reads her Bible as she talks to God about her day.

“Not many have so much as I Lord, my kids are well, and there is plenty of milk.”

She smiles as she reflects on the work that she finished that day, “Thank you Lord for the chickens to feed and the garden to weed. I even had that nice big bowl of berries you allowed me to pick.”

Thinking about her grandchildren then, she named them one by one in her prayer.

“I know my Billy is a rowdy one,” she smiled, “He is always pulling Sally’s braid”.

She rocked a bit, “My son is a good dad for him, he’ll teach him how to work.” Laughing quietly, “all of that energy put to use will save him many a lick.”

“ I miss my Jon Lord, but you know the future and I’m glad it is in your hands. One-day soon, I’ll see him and we will walk on golden streets holding hands.”

She read a bit and gave a tired sigh, with a sparkle in hr eye, “Thank you Lord for eyes to see, to read your precious Word”.

She rubbed her gnarled hands for awhile and rocked, not really thinking of herself; she just kept on talking to her best friend.

“ I also saw the sunset, and that pretty blue corn flower Sally brought me today. I felt your presence in each one.” “The love you give with each new day, with grace to continue on.”

“Just simply giving me a place to stay, Mildred, sharing her home.”
“Not a lot of daughter-in-laws as sweet as her Lord, keep her healthy, and bless her work for you.”

“I’m tired Lord, guess I’ll turn in. Just wanted you to know that there is not another thing in this ol’world greater than the peace you give within, Amen.”

She closed her Bible, turned out the light and slipped into her bed. Knowing that her God was controlling of every, single, thing, that happened in her life from the beginning to the end.

I Timothy 6:6 But godless with contentment is great gain.
