Without a doubt "The Harder they Come" with Jimmy Cliff and Carl "Jose" Bradshaw is the best local film ever!!!!
Followed by "Rockers" of course :icon_mrgr

Here is a list of notable movies filmed in Jamaica:
* 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
* The Blue Lagoon (1980)
* Cocktail (1988)
* Cool Runnings (1993)
* Dr. No (1962)
* How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998)
* Live and Let Die (1973)
* Lord of the Flies (1990)
* Wide Sargasso Sea (1993)
I haven't seen "High Winds to Jamaica" or "Rockers".
I will try to obtain these from my video centre.
For my money the worst movie filmed in Jamaica would be "The Mighty Quinn"

The worst movie ever filmed in Jamaica was actually the movie "Popcorn" which was filmed at the Ward theatre in the late 80s.
It was B grade horror flick which was even listed as being one of the worst by several magazines and film critics, it was a joke.
The Mighty Quinn that was another embarassment for a whole different set of reasons, the overdubbing was hilarious.
I noticed you have only listed movies produced and directed by foriegners is there a bias towards our local movies?

You are correct. I saw Popcorn when it first came out on PPV and I have to agree it was horrible. There was a scene near the beginning that looked like it was filmed at UWI Mona, and I even commented to someone about this at the time.
We watched Club Paradise at the theatre when it came out. I was embarrassed to see how our island was displayed. I'm afraid perhaps this may also have been influenced by local critical outcry at the depiction of Jamaica in the movie (under a different name). There was also rude comments about Cathie Levy's character, but that was a problem with most American movies shot at the time.
The list I obtained online (http://jamaica-guide.info/arts.and.entertainment/film/). I know it is not comprehensive and excludes those made by local makers but those films are not widely known as being made here.

We had our share of "Island Exploitation" by the foriegn media and most of realised that we would never be depicted as how we are, unless we are in control we will be governed by someone else's agenda; which is to show just beach, sand, dim wiited weed smokers and willing native girls.
Interestingly Jamaica has a relatively rich film history, if we think about films like:
Harder They Come
Rockers
Smile Orange
Children of Babylon
Country Man
I would have mentioned DanceHall Queen but its relatively recent, it had the same mass appeal like Rockers because it had the current local stars of the day.
In Rockers you had stars like Jacob Miller and Mikey Dread plus others, its still viewed as a cult classic across the world and given credit for show casing reggae to the world.
