The only vice-presidential debate for the US elections 2004 will be held tonight, October 5, 2004 between Dick Cheney and John Edwards. I'm guessing from the discussion thread on the Bush / Kerry debate that some of us will also be watching this one tonight as well as I plan to.

Let me state an early opinion that I think Cheney will handle himself much better than how Bush handled himself. Edwards will have to come good to "win" this one.

Chris you beat me to it, I was going to start this thread but forgot:)

Well let me say that, I want to hear what this extreme right wing neocon has to say. We already know he is running the country and that Bush is his front man. If there is any reason not to vote for the republicans, rest assure that Cheney is that reason. Don't forget this is the man who has been pushing for the Iraqi war for the last 10 years or more. The same man who in the 1980s voted against the resolution to demand that Nelson Mandela be freed from prison because he claimed that the ANC was a terrorist group.

LOL...If I could vote I would vote democrat because they are the lesser of the 2 evils. The Dems aren't all that great, but the GOP is even worst. Too many right wing clowns and this particular Republican Govt is extremely right wing. If you follow the ppl in the current administrations background, going back from Reagan and int he case of Chaney Pres Ford, you will have an idea of how they operate.

BTW you should recognised that I am not impress with Kerry either but like I said he is the lesser of the 2 evils.

That was a very interesting debate. Clearly Cheney was more in control of the debate and Edwards quickly became unsettled when the real issues and his lack of consistency started coming back at him. In my opinion the score is now 1-1 :)

I don't know about John Edwards being flustered. What I saw was a man who knew what he was speaking about and who gave as good as he got. In fact I wouldn't say any one man came out a clear winner. However, John Edwards was a pleasant surprise, especially when you put him against Chenney, a man with approx 40 years experience, the very same man who is running the the USA.

A lot of ppl thought that Chenney would made mince meat of Edwards but Edwards proved them wrong. I like the fact that Edwards came out and pointed out what liars Bush and Chenney are, how they deliberately lied to the country and the rest of the world.

Hold on AK, did we watch the same debate? The one that I saw clearly showed Edwards getting flustered, look at him floating around in his seat - a clear sign of uneasiness. Look at him mention Kerry's name not once but twice when responding to a question from the moderator in which she asked them to respond without mentioning the candidates' names. His blunder clearly showed that he was all wound up with pre-scripted response approaches from which he couldn't mentally adjust and deviate on the fly. Only goes to show that he's not really thinking about what he's saying just repeating the usual political rhetoric.

You're quite right though, Edwards gave as good as he got ... which wasn't very much and that's why he was kept in his place by Cheney :)

LOL Chris....Common what are you talking about? I don't think he was fluster, looks to me like he was trying to keep from rolling his eyes at Chenney and some of his idiotic comments.

Chenney has been telling the same lie for the last 3 years and Edwards called him out on it. It was a darn good dabate but I wouldn't say he was kept in his place by Chenney. In fact too often Chenney appeared as if he couldn't respond. When he did he claimed that there was enough time to say what he had to say.

Also, even if Edwards was a bit flustered, it is expeected, this is his first time in such a debate. Even the media pundits said he did quite well :) :D

BTW it wasn't only Edwards alone who use the candiates name, Chenney did several times times too. :p

I forgot to mention that when Edwards hit Chenney about him vetoing the bill for the Martin Luther King Day and to free Nelson Mandela, Chenney sat there and had nothing to say. I was hoping Edwards would bring up Bush 's support for one of the most racist university in the USA, the Bob Jones University.

Edwards was also speechless when Cheney publicized his absence from most of the senate meetings and votes. "Senator Gone" I think was the name that Edwards' hometown newspaper called him ;)

Oh please...sounds to me like Chenney was clutching at straws:)

In any event I would rather be seen as absent than as a lying, immoral cheat who don't mind sending an army ill prepared for war, a war based on lies.

Now what do you have to say to that Mr. Chris :p
