Would population control be enough to solve poverty?
Just wanted to share my thoughts with the community
I have been thinking about this for quite some time now and seriously ever since i read Freakonomics.
This is my understanding and reasoning (correct me where i'm wrong):
lets first accept the facts. People living in a country has limited resources to go around for everyone. These include food, clothing, basic things we need to survive. There is also different classifications of these resources, some more valuable than others. The folks who can afford to buy the better resources are often described as "richer" or the "wealthy".
Now, the problem is that there is not enough top class food, shelter, sex etc to go around for everyone. Some people have to settle for the lower standards. But what some people don't know is that with proper family planning they will be able to raise their standard of living in their family. It is simple: the more mouths to feed the more strain on the pockets to provide for those kids and if they fail to provide it is highly likely that these kids will turn to alternate methods of income, whether it be lawful or not.
According to http://www.babycenter.com/cost-of-raising-child-calculator or http://www.bankrate.com/brm/calc/raiseChild.asp
a single parent in the USA who wants to raise a single child who was born in 2007 will have to pay $215,514 from birth to age 18. That does not include college education. Now imagine that times 12 children with worthless baby fathers...see where i'm going?
We have a serious problem where family planning is concerned and here, once again, we see where education can liberate the poor: Family planning education. 2 is better than too many. We see where middle-to-lower classed people have the most kids. In some places 10 children is not out of the ordinary.
The wealthy on the other hand, only has 2 or 3 kids who they can more afford to spoil, provide highest education and continue the family tree in prosperity.
Poor people of the caribbean, dont rush to have no pickney...and if u have 1 or 2 try u best to use contraceptive for the rest of u life. We know it is highly probable that you will not afford to pay for these kids......
