They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but I am sorry to say (actually am not) they sure aren't mine. When I think of the situation in South Africa and other African nations and how the African ppl have had to struggle thru the years I can't understand why I would want to make Diamonds my best friend. Why would I want to spend money that we know goes into the pockets of the DeBeers of the world. Too many ppl are ignorant to what goes on in the diamond industry, from rape of the African soil, money laundering to the wars between the various African Trives! :icon_twis :icon_frow

The issue of conflict diamonds has been known for many years. There are a number of retailers who do not know the source of the diamonds they sell. The rest will not purchase these diamonds, also as far as I know it is illegal in the US to traffic them. I'm not sure the law in Jamaica as to these diamonds.

I don't think it's that people are ignorant, it's that they don't care. People like pretty things, and don't care to think about how they are able to attain these pretty things.

As far as I'm concerned this conversation is the same as talking about FUR COATS. The slaughteration of many species has a really bad effect on the globe even though people will argue that itch with me all day!

It's the same as talking about the chopping down of trees... people don't care until they see what happens when a hurrican hits and there is no forrestry to protect the land!

People know it affects someone or something in a negative way, but at the end of the day... it's not affecting them directly in anyway that they can see, so they don't care!
