Americans in Jamaica vote by absentee ballot

Tuesday, November 02, 2004

TODAY in the United States, but most Americans who live in Jamaica and intend to vote have already done so by absentee ballot, Orna Blum, officer of public affairs at the US Embassy, said yesterday.

Each state has different rules in regard to the submission of absentee ballots and many American citizens submitted ballots in advance in accordance with the requirements, Blum told the Observer.

"We don't have a situation where people come to the embassy and vote on election day because each state has a different set of rules. So it is our hope that if people are here on election day, that they made arrangements to complete an absentee ballot before they left the US to come to Jamaica because there wouldn't be much time before the deadline," Blum pointed out.

She said that the US Embassy provided write-in ballots for persons who were registered to vote but who did not receive absentee ballots.

"We were pleased to be able to submit a last batch of those absentee ballots just last week," Blum added.

Is voting safe well the is still the question the conclusion cannot be drawn because the votes havent been tallied yet.

When I voted today the used a memory card in the machine and I used a touch screen. The card pops out of the machine after you press cast ballot. You take to the card to the ballot box and drop it in and your done.

Interested article Pondadat.

I voted today myself....driving to 3 locations before I could find my voting booth. Then when I did..... the machine would not take my ballots, they had to override it.

However, I feel so proud (first time voter here), that I contributed to freedom today. :D

Thats Jeb Bush at work again up to his no good tricks. They say they have lawyers waiting if something turns up. I know that are watching Florida, because the suspect Jeb Bush will try and play his tricks again. I heard from a friend the last time he had streets blocked off so people couldnt get to the polls. Don't know how true it is but my friend lives in Florida. I think thats bad bizzness. :eusa_snoo

Honestly....I've seen already a whole bunch of shady stuff this morning and I went to 3 precinsts: the first one couldnt find my name so they send me to a 2nd....they had me there inline again for 30 mins only to tell me that the computer is down and the line is busy, calling in downtown to see where we should go. So I told the lady that I am here to vote and will go the next one...trying to give me the run around.

So I went to the 3rd one and they finally found my name. The lady looking for my name said I could go to the desk and use the pens. YOU CANNOT USE THE REGULAR PENS OK! Listen the lady lied. You must use the marker they have provided or else you voote won't count. SO I proceeded to let the lady know that she cannot be misinforming people like that and losing votes.

Anyhow, I filled out the ballots and then proceeded to drop my cards in only to see th emachine spitting out ma card. Finally, she override it and it went through. (Don't know how the overriding thing go still).

Tastee...I know that prejudice and what not is down here...but that is only labelling one side of the whole America. It is everywhere especially when I lived in NYC.
