How do Jamaicans and Bob Marley fans in general feel about his remains potentially being moved from Jamaica to Ethiopia, by his wife Rita? I was told that many in Jamaica were not happy about it because it may diminish his iconic presence there, its a bit of Jamaican culture being uprooted and taken to another country, and the loss in tourist revenues from persons that visit to see his mosaleum, his childhood home , and the museum that was erected for his legacy may diminish.

Ethiopians are not too happy about it, either. They believe Rastafarians are no good scoundrels.

Yes I read that too. But they (Ethiopians) may change their minds about Rastas and Rastafarian, if the site of his (Bob's) remains brings in revenue for their homeland, parts of which are impoverished.

Do you have a link for your story? I would like to see the article, if you have it.

This was in the Jamaica Observer newspaper on Tuesday, February 8, 2005.

The Government yesterday made it clear that it would challenge any request by Rita Marley, the widow of the late Reggae icon Bob Marley, to exhume his remains for reburial in Ethiopia... more (http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/html/20050207T220000-0500_74731_OBS_GOV_T_WILL_CHALLENGE_ANY_REQUEST_TO _MOVE_MARLEY__SAYS_HENRY_WILSON.asp)

So now we know what the Govt thinks about the move, and I'm in agreement.

I think rather weird to remove someone's remains to put there somewhere else. I agree that Bob Marley would have certainly liked to die in Ethiopia but I think that everyone of us would 'prefer' being buried where he/she was born, brought up and spent the most of his/her life. Ok Bob Marley is an icon, but doesn't he have right to have that? But the most interesting would be to know Rita Marley's motivations.

Yes what are her motivations after all these years, is an interesting question to proprose? He died over 23 years ago, why remove his remains now? She is the only member of the Marley family to make a statement regarding his remains, I wonder how his children and his mother feel about the move?

I think it was one big publicity stunt. Haven't heard any comments by the children. Did she eventually do it anyways?

NB. Bahama Mama....not sure if it was a mistake but his birth name is Robert Nesta Marley....the way you wrote it made it seem as if Nesta is a nickname....no flaming please!

Excuse me and forgive the commas  . It was a simple mistake that I will strive to not repeat in the future. But I am sure you knew who I was speaking of. But again no disrespect intended.

As far as your first comment, I have not heard anymore pretaining to the story.

None taken my dear....it's just that sometimes when people are corrected...they feel insulted and lash back...so I was correcting the best way I could. No disrespect....I'm sure it was an honest mistake either way........

Well I wasnt lashing back it just seemed as though you were overly offended by the addition of commas to Mr. Marley's middle name, and I thought it was a bit strange. But in any event thankyou for the correction, I dont like to make the same mistake twice :)
