Default Commission of Inquiry gets under way in Grenada

    Quote from Caribbean Net News

ST. GEORGE‘S, Grenada: Dr. Richard Lionel Cheltenham, the sole commissioner in the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of bribery on the part of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, made his inaugural statement on Friday, saying the evidence of Eric Resteiner, Timothy Bass and David Marchant is important and the commission is willing to go to them if they cannot come to Grenada.

I understand that it was reported today that telecommunications giant, Cable and Wireless reached a settlement in a libel case brought against it by Prime Minister Keitch Mitchell about the allegation that the PM received US$500,000 from a German Fraudster for a dipolmatic post. The PM admits received about US$15,000 instead.

C&W has to pay up for allowing the Prime Minister's name to be slandered on their former online forum known as Spiceisle Talkshop (now offline).

The Prime Minister on accepting the payment said that monies will go towards a charity.

Outstanding Lawsuits filed by the Prime Minister include:

    1. The oppositon Leader, Tillman Thomas for an address to the nation
    2. Opposition senator George Prime also for an address to the nation
    3. Grenada Cablevision for allowing Prime's message to be aired
    4. Leroy Noel for newspaper article "NNP DAYS ARE NUMBERED"
    5. Spiceisle Review Newspaper for publishing Noel's article
    6. Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) for first airing the PM's allegation story from BBC Caribbean (BBC Caribbean was temporary of the air for sometime)

    7. Offshore ALert who by the way are yet to receive an suit from the PM.

The commision of Inquiry into allegations of wrong doing by Grenada's PM has been resumed after a long delay due to the Hurricane. The aim of the inquiry is to investigate if indeed the Grenadian leader received US$500,000 in a Louis Vuitton breifcase from a German Fraudstar for a diplomatic position in Switzerland in 2000.

The PM denied the allegation saying that he received approximately US$15,000 to cover the trip expenses.
