    Default Regional Prison Officers

----- Tuesday Aug. 31, 2004 --- Future leaders of the region’s prison establishments from the Eastern Caribbean, Barbados, Anguilla and Bermuda have begun training in St Lucia till 3 September 2004.

The training course is targeted at officers who may reach the rank of Superintendent in five to ten years and will cover topics such as business and strategic planning, managing staff discipline, profiling and investigations. As an ongoing training element of the course officers will be invited to work on a project chosen by their own Superintendent over the next 12 months and will receive distance support and mentoring from the training team. A visit will also be made to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

UK Prison Service training expert Graham Autrey and Nick Brooke a former Prison Service Governor will be the facilitators of the course together with regional trainer, Mr Linus Goodluck from HMP Kingstown, St Vincent.

Funding is being provided by the UK Government as part of a commitment given in support of the region’s penal establishments, which began in 2000 at the UK-Caribbean Forum. During 2004 St Lucian participants also took part in training provided for Deputy Prison Superintendents, for officers dealing with Female Issues and a workshop for Visiting Justices and Boards of Visitors.
