Default Passa Passa has 'no place in Grenada'

As reported on BBC Caribbean Magazine, Grenada's Education Minister Claris Charles has expressed grave concern about the emergence of Passa Passa as a new trend on the Grenadian entertainment circuit.

Mrs Charles says Passa Passa - which has it origins in Jamaica - is not welcome in Grenada and has no place in Grenadian society.

“I am hearing something called Passa Passa wich is creeping into the public. Its where persons are having dances and some young ladies are almost half naked.

"I think when we want to be monkeys, and copy other people we should copy the right thing. There is no merit in a young lady exposing themselves in public and letting a DVD be made of them. These things are reminiscent of Sodom & Gomorrah. This has no place in Grenada.”

Well said Mrs. Charles . I couldnt agree with you more.
I'm glad she's nipping this topic in the bud. This Minister seems to be very intouch with what's going on in her Ministry. In Trinidad some idiot would probably present a "Passa Passa" style concert next year for Carnival like they did this year in presenting a "New Orleans" style concert and make it sound real "International"...
I have deeper related comments on this issue- but i'll refrain for now...

    Hold on there...

People in the Caribbean dancing half naked long before the "Passa Passa" street dances ever started. Look how long Carnival in Trinidad going on. And this DVD Girls gone Wild business never originated in Jamaica.
I agree that such things aren't desireable anywhere though.

What exactly is this Passa Passa? Is it similar to Carnival?

It's ok, I read the article and it is some type of dance. Is it similar to Carnival? If so isn't that a bit hypociritcal? I do agree that they shouldn't allow certain things into the society.

Passa Passa is a particular street dance held in Kingston Jamaica. You know how dances go, there will always be some persons who dress suggestively, carry on kindof loose. It happens at Carnival too.

    Yuh see it AK.
If people blazing fire on slackness, don't just blaze it on that which you think is "imported" slackness, blaze it on the "domestic" slackness too.
