Why would they have colon cancer? If you are referring to their pepper consumption, their is nothing to prove that pepper causes colon cancer.Originally Posted by Xenocrates

I'm surprised that there isn't a higher incidence of Kidney failure or even colon cancer in the Trini population. This is especially since we Jamaicans' Ackee consumption has driven our prostate cancer rates through the roof. There has to be a similar trend in Trinidad. I must do some research on this.
UWI Library? Here I come...

Now when we talkin 'bout pepper, we have to be specific. It have all kinda pepper- pimento, scotch bonnet a.k.a. congo pepper, bird, jalepeno, sweet, black (from the pepper corn), white and so forth. We in Trinidad take our pepper very seriously. I take it that you're referring to the hot variety of which there are still many. Hot pepper to me is a delicacy. It comes in a variety of flavours (when mixed) that compliments whatever you're eating. The scotch bonnet pepper is mixed with a variety of fruits and vegetables in order to add that savoury complimentary taste to your food. e.g. i find kuchela to go best with curry, lime pepper sauce for fish broth and stew fish, pepper sauce (with the usual blend of papaw, carrots, vinegar and so on goes best on chow, and just about anything else. Bird peppers eaten raw add a nice flavour to your food. If you dont want it hot then take out the seeds (its the seeds that make yuh bawl fuh yuh mudda!)
My father eats scotch bonnet pepper raw- folks, don't try this at home!
Like many other things in life, its an acquired taste that most Trinis have come to love.
Anybody ever heard of pepper corner in deep South on the way to the pitch Lake? This place is either in or near La Brea. Anyway, if you see the amount of varieties of peppersauce this place have!!! It was featured in a BWIA magazine once. Its a favourite spot for locals tourists to try the local delicacy if they dare. Let me see if i can find it.
We find comfort among those who agree with us- growth among those who don't.
Sorry guys, can't find it. My mother makes all kinds of pepper sauce and kuchela on a regular basis (it finishes very quickly) so anytime you guys come to Trinidad i'll be happy to give you some samples![]()

Once again Im not one of Curry's biggest fan, its good buh it has its disadvantages. Like the smell (my moms tends to cook it outside), it stains, its not good to eat regular health-wise etc.

- My bad, it's the other way around. Pepper consumption actually immobilizes (not causes) colon cancer. Read here.Originally Posted by AngelsKiss
