Natasha Ashton made a habit of talking to her sister, Elva, on the phone every Saturday. Natasha was in New York and Elva in Toronto, but they made a point of chatting regularly about their lives and their families.

"I got up Saturday morning to call her and the phone rang," Natasha said in an interview yesterday. "It was her daughter back home in Grenada giving me the news she was dead."

Elva Ashton was repeatedly stabbed in the chest in her basement apartment in the Weston and Rogers Rds. area early Saturday.
