St Vincent prime minister faces another sexual assault charge

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent: Lawyers acting on behalf of a Vincentian lawyer living in Canada have filed an indecent assault charge in this country’s Family Court against Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

The charge comes on the heels of an indecent assault and rape charge, filed last month against Dr Gonsalves.

Lawyer Kay Bacchus-Browne said the indecent assault charge was filed on March 13.

“The incident happenedd about four years ago, but as you know, I am not at liberty to give more details,” Bacchus-Browne said.

Following the filing of the indecent assault and rape charges last month, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Colin Williams, took over and discontinued the matter, which had been filed in the Serious Offences Court.

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Human Rights Association, Nicole Sylvester, is representing Bacchus-Browne in the latest court matter against Dr Gonsalves.

Dr Gonsalves’ lawyer was unavailable to make a comment.

Laws governing the Family Court prevent the reporting of details in matter before the Court.

DPP discontinues another sexual assault charge against St Vincent PM

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent: The St Vincent and the Grenadines Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Colin Williams, on Friday took over and discontinued another sexual assault charge against Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, filed on March 13 by lawyers acting on behalf of a Canadian national with Vincentian citizenship, who resides in Canada.

In a sworn statement, Margaret Parsons claims that sometime in 2004 she went to the office of the Prime Minister and was sexually assaulted. However, a well-placed source said she changed the date to 2003.

Kay Bacchus-Browne, one of the lawyers representing Parsons, said she is “appalled” by the DPP’s decision.
