Default EU ("Brexit") referendum: UK votes to leave in historic referendum

The UK has voted by 52% to 48% to leave the European Union after 43 years in an historic referendum.
London and Scotland voted strongly to stay in the EU but the remain vote has been undermined by poor results in the north of England.
UKIP leader Nigel Farage hailed the result as the UK's "independence day".

This is HUGE! It will have far-reaching implications globally, I suspect more than the people who voted in favour of leaving realize.

Those who voted for leaving saw no reason for staying, but those in the urban areas knew staying would be more beneficial in the long run.

Ireland and Scotland could leave the UK due to this.
